Default FiOS Availability

Is there a site or some phone number to call at Verizon that shows projected FiOS availability dates? I've signed up for the email notice when it will be available at my address in Redondo Beach, but I was just wondering if there was a more forward-looking resource out there.

I have signed up for the same thing a few times. They came through and buried the fiber in my backyard back in Feb. and have not been in my neighborhood since March, and still they say it isn't available. This pisses me off, because my in-laws who live 10 miles away had crews burying the FIOS in thier neighborhood in July and every time I go there to pick up my son every other house has a Verizon truck outside of it doing an install... I can't get an answer as to what is going on with our location from anyone. I stare at the Verizon post now standing in my backyard every day now and wonder when it will become active....

Try going to Verizon's website. Get to the fios tv site, and you can put in your phone number to see if you can get fios. If it shows up as not being available, try putting in your address instead, and see if that works. If that STILL doesn't work, and if you think that fios is available in your neighborhood, then I'd recommend trying to put in one of your neighbor's addresses. Not that you can glom onto an install from your neighbor or anything, but sometimes their database gets screwed up, from what I understand. And if their database is hosed, then they can't sign you up.

If your neighbor shows up as being able to get fios, but you're not, then chances are that the data for your house is messed up. In which case I would call Verizon and mention all of this to them.

Thanks for the advice, peeps.

Already signed up on the Verizon notification thingy. We live in an apartment complex with four total buildings - two with four units each, and two in the back that have larger single units built on top of the garages. We are in one of those stand-alones in the back. Effectively, there is a pole at the front that runs to the four-unit building, and a pole in the alley that runs directly to our apartment. However, both buildings share the same street address. (each unit, of course, has its own number) I wonder if that might be messing up the Verizon database?

Any suggestions there? Customer service call?

Yeah, I would call them. You never know how your address is listed in their database, and you may never get a notification. Happened to one guy in NJ. He said that the way things are addressed in his neighborhood, he has always had these types of problems - Comcast told him he couldn't get service when he gave them his postal address. But then he told them where he lived and they said "oh, yeah, we service that area." Ditto with Verizon. FiOS had been available to him for months and he didn't know it!

Well I know they service my address..... I am a current Verizon DSL and landline customer.

But there may be a disconnect with their FiOS stuff. I see the trucks around the South Bay all the time now, and I know there are FiOS customers in other parts of Redondo. Just frustrating is all.

Thanks for the help.

It's rediculous. I have had FiOS internet for about 7 months now. I had to give up on waiting for there TV. I will now have to wait for my contract with Dtv to end. Maybe by then it will be available in my area.

I knew that the wire was on the pole in front of my house. I had signed up to get notified through email when I could get it. Never got the email. I kept running my number through the website and it told me that I could only get DSL which I had! Well one day it told me to call 800-get-fios. I did and they are coming tomorrow for phone and internet. I still have not received the email!

If you have internet and TV is not avalable, this is not Verizons fault. The town you live in is being a pain is the rear for Verizon. You need to contact your local government officials and tell them they need to make a franchise agreement with Verizon. If enough people complain, the town will come to an agreement.

I live in an apartment complex and am having the same problem. They went one step further and buried all the fiber and ran boxes to our closets in the master bedrooms. The trick is when I call up they tell me it's not available and I'm crazy. I got sick of their attitude and have given up.

My property manager supposedly called up for me to complain but I've heard nothing back. They can take their cruddy customer service and 9-5 days and blow away.

(I am frustrated though because I'd love 100 extra HD channels. )

Same here in Summer of 2005. I was watching them splice fiber behind my house and kept going to the web site and entering my phone number. Then one day I received the same call 800-get-fios something message. Funny I think they finally sent Email and called to tell me it was available, but only a month or so after it was installed. As soon as TV was available in fall of 2007 I called and had them turn it on and bring boxes. I had the RG-6 coax run and terminated for the guy and all he did was turn them on activate them, and then go to lunch. He did want to cut the DTV cable until I stuck the new end in his face and said not so fast. Now I have an extra cable at each location, after DTV was gone. I have it connected to OTA antenna for HD. Funny it seems that some HD ball games are better from the antenna and local digital broadcast. No Motorala box and what ever HD bandwidth the Washington DC station cares to transmit.

Word to the wise, probably not the best idea to put your number on an internet bulletin board.

A better idea would be to PM the number to interested folks, that way you can filter out the crazies.
