Default Popping Noise From Speakers.....

I've got the digital audio (the cable with the light) coming from my cable box and my PS3 going into a manuak switcher and then going to my 5.1 receiver which only has the one input. For blu ray movies and TV watching the surround sound is fine.

I have a problem when playing 2 games on the PS3 though. I downloaded Nascar 2009 and a game called Wipeout. When I play those 2 games I get a loud popping noise coming from my speakers and I believe it's usually when there's some kind of crash or bumping into the wall. There's no way it's a sound that's supposed to be there when you crash.

Other games (Rock Band2, MLB The Show) have no problems.

Any ideas?

Does the popping occur at any volume level?

Of course I just tried to recreate the problem and it's not happening. I believe it was at all volume levels though.

Random popping like that is usually an improperly glued dust cap on a speaker. Check 'em out. It's happened to me before. It was on a surround speaker too so it was hard to recreate. But I found it and returned it.

Don't both those games have dts tracks? Maybe it's a bad dts decoder?

Man i just went threw this with my rig, ive had several different things happen. Ive had the dust cap thing happen in the past ive also had an air leak make weird noises not exactly poping but weird distorted sounds from a hole in the bass cabnet.

The last one was when i just went from a set of sony cubes to my Bose Acoustimass SE-5s i noticed some static or poping and when i opepend up the speaker one of the caps broke loose from the side and one of the legs of the cap broke flush and was making a slight connection every once in a while and popping.

Clipping can cause popping noises also, ive noticed when i flip from cable or dvd to my wii unit the audio is SUPER high its crazy high levels actualy so most game decks may be like this?

Do you have any way to check your levels in?

I think most manuals recommend putting banana plugs at the AVR wire connection. That way those wires don't touch if the A/V receiver is going in an enclosed cabinet

I still haven't been able to reproduce the problem so I guess all is well.

Thanks!
