5.1 Setup Qustions

This is my first time setting up a 5.1 surround sound system and I just wanted to ask the experts :P if I've planned things right.

This is a picture I made showing the setup (not to scale)

red - center speaker
pink - subwofer
blue - front speakers
green - surround speakers
teal - direction the speakers are pointed

The room is basically a rectangle 20' x 13'. Any help would be much appreciated.

Okay, I just finished reading it. Got a couple questions though.

First, I noticed that the surround speakers are quite a distance away from the sofa. Does it matter how far away they are? For example, if I were to put the SR speaker on the wall, right beside my sofa and the SL speaker on the other wall (above the dresser), would it matter any?

Second, does the height of the speakers matter?

And lastly, I read somewhere that if the speakers aren't near a corner, that it can effect the sound.... Had something to do with base...?

As long as the speakers are 1'-2' above ear level it should be OK but you will need to adjust the volume levels of the speakers in the receiver setup to make up for the distance differentiation.

I wouldn't be concerned about that as you do have a subwoofer. If you are bass starved after setting everything up move the sub closer to the wall or corner of the room
