I know this is a dumb question. But I am sitting here looking at my TV and wondering. With the size of the TV how do you place a center speaker at ear level?

Best position is direct center under your display panel

Hi all,
I have a question about my Surrounds.
In my Apt. my living room is rectangular but the TV area is almost square at 14 x 15 with the rear wall 13 feet from HDTV.
At the rear wall I have the usual HT Theater Recliner seats with the Drink holders. They are placed away from the rear wall just enough for a full reclining position.
The Seats start at approx. 3 feet from the left wall that also has a sliding glass door to Balcony
To the right of seating is the Dining area and no defining Right side wall (next to the seating) but located at the other side of the Dining Area.
The entire room is about 14 x 22 with the TV area consisting as I stated above 14 x 15.

I am thinking of placing my Surrounds as follows:
The Left Surround off the Left Wall and Ceiling Corner angled downwards.
The Right Surround hanging from the Ceiling same distance from seating as the Left Surround (about 3 Feet) (no side wall) and angled downwards towards the seating.

The Surrounds will be side fired as I have no space behind my seating.

What do posters think of this setup?
Also recommendations for Speaker mounts..I am using Polk T15's as my Surrounds.

Thanks to all,

Bud B

Surrounds ARE SUPPOSED TO BE SIDE FIRED. It is in 7.1 that you have rear speakers, in 5.1 surrounds are on the side (as are they are also in 7.1 with rears being behind. The whole topic of this thread is proper placement - you should go back and read it from the beginning.

Hi jkkyler,
Thanks for your response.

I did read all of the pages and your post's 32, 34 and then post 65 in response to me.
Except for your post # 34 that stated that ceiling Surrounds should be fine, there was not much more on it.
I am using 5.1 and my Ceiling mount Surrounds will be Side Fried as you said.

Thanks again.

Hi Guys!

Quick question. I live in a small studio apt with 5.1 and want to setup 7.1. My couch is against the wall 12 feet from the TV. Any alternative beside in back on couch to place the rear speakers?

Thanks!

You can mount them behind and above your seating.

Thanks I'll give it a go. Would it be a bad idea to put on floor firing up behind the couch?

You'll lose a lot of sound dampened by the couch.

Just looked at my speakers, but they don't have hooks on the back. Is there a kit I could get?

Take a look at Pinpoint Am40 clamp wall mounts. I just ordered two to mount my new Polk Monitor 40's for surrounds. I would link but I just created this account.
