Default Sony STR-DG920 question

I just bought an STR-DG920 receiver. And am trying to hook up to an older Sony WEGA which only has a DVI hookup.
The manual says that it is not recommended to hook up to the monitor with an HDMI to DVI connection or the picture or sound may be affected. And I find that to be true.
When I did, I had no picture.
My question is , is there a way to hook my Blu-ray and SAT receiver up to the STR-DG920 using the HDMI outputs and then output the receiver to the WEGA using composite video connections?
When I do. I still have no picture. Is there a setting I am missing or is it just not possible
I guess what I'm trying to ask is. Are the HDMI inputs on the STR-DG920 useless unless I have a TV monitor that has a HDMI input? Thanks

Yes. I would say the HDCP is stopping you from getting video.

You're going to need to get an HDMI TV, or just connect to the receiver with an optical cable.

Moved here since this is a receiver issue.

I don't know of any receivers which will take hdmi and 'backwards' convert to component. One of my Tv's has DVI inputs and I use a HDMI to DVI adapter for picture. As for sound my receiver will switch audio so I get audio from it (but not on my tv which is OK as my TV is `3.5 yrs old and its speakers have never been used for anything). I don't know if your receiver will switch audio or is just passthrough.

Default Help with STR-DG20 rcvr

hello, i hope someone can help me. I recently bought a sony str-dg920 rcvr and i'm having a hard time watching my BD in DTS. whenever i play any BD the linear PCM(48) streaks across the rcvr face. I thought Linear PCM means it's receiving an analog feed not digital right?
Thanks in advance
