I need to get a subwoofer

so I got 2 promonitor 1000s for the front, 1 procenter 2000 and 2 promonitor 800s

Now I need to get a nice subwoofer but for no more than 450$

I can get the def tech prosub 1000 for 395$ shipped, what sub would you guys recommend to me?

Loves2Watch 09-20-2008 08:32 AM

Go with the def tech. It will round out your system very nicely.

nyboy11 09-20-2008 09:02 AM

I see, thanks for the info, I also checked out the Klipsch sub12 650 watt sub but I was told that it would overpower the system, I also was told the def would match the best as it's the same brand,

395$ for the def tech prosub1000 is a good price right?

Oh and I have a question, should I buy 2 more promonitor 800s for the rear backs to make it a 7.1 system? Is it worth it?

Yes $395 is a good price for that sub. As for adding the rear surround speakers, that is a matter of choice and really depends on the size of your room. Normal size living rooms really don't have the room necessary to benefit from 7.1 although many here do have theirs set up that way. 5.1 sounds pretty good as it is though and it is how I have all of my surround systems setup even though I do have the option for 7.1. I have tried it and don't hear enough difference to make it worth my while especially since there is so little 7.1 material available. Once it becomes mainstream (if ever) I may reconsider.

ok man, my room is 21x12x9.

So the subro 1000 is a high quality sub right? It's worth the price yea? I mean it will be much better than my current htib onkyo subwoofer yea?

iserum 09-20-2008 04:41 PM

if you could get super cube iii, it will be awesome, shop around you can get some discount on them. my room is very similar to yours and super cube iii rocks.

nyboy11 09-20-2008 08:42 PM

the supercube iii is much better than the ProSub 1000? is it worth the extra money?

iserum 09-21-2008 12:03 AM

300 watts power on Prosub 1000 vs 600 Watts on super cube iii and it is tiny, you can hide it and no one could notice it is there.

What size are the speakers comparatively? Power sometimes doesn't matter is the lower powered one has a speaker that is more efficient. 300 watts should be plenty.

well the front left and right and the center speaker are pretty big, the surrounds are a little smaller.

So guys , for around 550 if i can get the super cube iii should go for it yea?

theres no other better sub out there for this price that will outperform this sub right?

everyone i asked said that with my def tech speaker setup the supercube iii would be the best sub to get and that its much better and smoother than the prosub 1000.

btw my apartment living room is 21 x 12x 8 1/2 but its NOT a closed room, its completely connected to the whole apartment so the sound is not locked in that space, it goes out of that space.

Guys and if the supercube iii is too loud , it has a volume knob on it where i can lower the volume right?

By the way i bought this: http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=search subwoofer cable yesterday LOCALLY at radioshack, it was on sale for $20 so i went for it because the place where i was initially was going to buy the subwoofer cable was from the website where ill order the supercube iii probably and he offered me a 10 ft subwoofer cable made by AUDIOQUEST for 24$ , so i got a longer cable for cheaper and its also made by monster which is nice, usually i dont buy their cables , i buy from Monoprice but for 20$ i said what the heck..

thats the cable ill need right?

Yes that is the cable you need. As for the size difference, I was talking about the size difference between the two subs.

If you want just loud booming subs then either would do well. If you want an accurate sub that you can feel then I would recommend the REL T-3. Read the review here - http://www.hometheatermag.com/subwoofers/108rel/

Ok guys its all done, i just ordered the SuperCube III, my friedn at ABT.com gave me a good price i think, i called a few stores and out of them all my friend at abt.com gave it to me for the cheapest which is $580 shipped and no tax, and they are an authorized deal so its good for peace of mind. 6 AVE agreed to give me the supercube iii for $550 but there i have to pay tax which makes the total purchase be $597 lol so its $600 total and i never ordered a thing from 6 ave so i dont know how their service is and the terms nor do i care honestly. I called vanns too since im familiar with them and they said that the best of the best price they can give me is $599 free shipping and no tax.

I got a good price right? i mean do you guys know anywhere where i could have gotten the supercube iii for cheaper?

also there is a company called INFINITY SALES @ amazon.com and for some reason he is always the one selling the product for the cheapest, whether its a subwoofer, speakers etc.. for example he sells the supercube iii for $560 but you have to pay $19 shipping and they are located in New jersey so you also need to pay tax id guess. but that doesnt matter , i called definitive technology and i asked them about all these comapnies and INFINITY SALES is NOT an authorized dealer so if anything goes wrong with the sub you are out of warranty cuz Def tech wont honor you since you bought the sub from a non authorized deal.

Glad to hear you decided. Let us know what you think after you get it hooked up.

nyboy11 09-21-2008 01:22 PM

i have 30 days to return the sub if i dont like it , and i wont get charged for shipping it back or anything so thats awesome.

I mean is there a reason why i might be disappointed with this sub? i cant find any better sub than this for a similar price

iserum 09-21-2008 01:58 PM

you need to find a sweet spot for your sub to get the best out of it, try to use a corner of room 6-8 inches from wall, follow the instruction to set cross over it is very important. for your speakers setup crossover at 80-100 in AVR and keep volume gain on sub at one O'clock position.
