Ok so I am starting to piece together a complete Home Theater. I am slowly looking and researching each individual component and weighing both the pros and the cons and have now come to the subwoofer portion of the matter.
I am looking at SVS, HSU and possibly Def Tech subs and thinking of going dual subs so with that in mind I want to spend no more than $500 +/- per subwoofer. I have read threads such as this one at AVS comparing the best subs on the market as of last year with both SVS and HSU comprising the majority on the list www. avsforum .com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=768150 (just take the spaces out) I was also thinking of going single subwoofer and for my rears getting the smaller Def Tech super towers with built in 8" subs. That would make 3 subs total and I could have the def techs dialed into the mid bass while the standalone delivers the deep smooth bass. I guess I am just looking for opinions and see what other people have come up with and how they have their subs arranged and how well their setup works. Or maybe perhaps subs that are not on that list but are great performers for the price.. |

multiple woofers/subs in different parts of the room there is the risk of them being out of phase at certain frequencies thus canceling each other out.
Would start with a single sub and then add on another if it does not have enough bass for you. You will probably have to experiment with the placement of both subs for the best output. Ed |

I have heard not so good things about sunfire subs, and one could do better for the price. I will look for more reviews and such though.
I have a Klipsch Reference 10" and its not a bad sub but it gets kinda boomy in the upper decibal range, it sounds great at low listening levels but when watching a loud action scene I tend to notice the distortion. |

I was planning on getting two identical subs if that matters. Its not that I need a ton of bass right now but when I move it will be going into a larger room and I want everyone (not just me) to really hear and feel the deep tight bass and from what ive read running two subs is or shall I say was a good choice.. thank you for the heads up |

Infinity makes great subs and has been doing so for many years. They offer tight, clean bass (not boomy) for a reasonable price. I have not seen them reviewed lately but 2 years ago they were rated tops. Do yourself a favor and check them out...

I heard a saying once that "things are only as complicated as you make them" Well I am trying not to make anything complicated but so far my audio endeavors are just that COMPLICATED!!!! ![]() PS: What does your avatar mean? Don't know how you would tune them for different output ranges, and what would be the point the total output should be the same, unless I am missing something (possibly less distortion)? I was thinking you would be placing one in front and one in back, that indeed can cause bass cancellation. If you want two in front and they are close to each other and in phase you should be ok. But again, why not just one powerful sub??? Sub woofers are not directional in their output it should be easily audible throughout the room. There is always a problem with standing waves causing bass cancellation but it is easer to control with one sub. Might I ask what the size your room is? Ed |
