Default Xbox 360 Audio question

I have the Onkyo 805 hooked up 7.1. Now when I play a CD just in my DVD Player (component) all speakers run and it sounds great. When I just play audio from the xbox (HDMI) that I have ripped from CDs then the receiver will switch to 2.1 and only the fronts and the sub work.

I would like it to always play in 7.1 what setting am I missing?

Have you tried using spdif audio to see if it is an HDMI issue vs a decoding issue with your xbox360? I use optical spdif sound and component outputs for video because my sat box+hddvr consume my hdmi inputs and have had no troubles (although I just have 6.1 not 7.1 I still get good matrixed rear). Also are you using an Xbox360 elite or an aftermarket hdmi add on product on the initial release of Xbox360.

I believe it is common for many receiver to default to 2.1 or Dolby Prologic II for audio CD's. I actually preffer this myself over 5.1 myself, but that is me. If your receiver defaults to this, just simply change it in the audio selection menu to what you want..
