Default HTIB advice............any suggestions??

I just got the Sony 34XBR960 and it sounds great. But I wanted to add an inexpensive speaker system. I have a fairly small room (15 x 24 approx). I'm not interested in letting people 3 blocks away hear it. Just something that sounds good. I'm looking to spend around $200-$400. Any suggestions?? Thanks.

Ok...a little advice. (A.) Are you the type of person where if the component screws up you replace the component that is faulty? or (B.) Are you the type of person that if a component screws up, you replace everything?
If you are person A:
I would advise a system that use speaker wires to connect the surround speakers to the receiver, and not a proprietary connection from the receiver to the subwoofer, then speaker wires from the subwoofer to the surround speakers. Once you start getting into proprietary wire harnesses you start getting into issues that if something craps out on you (like the subwoofer) then you can't replace it with a typical subwoofer. In turn you would end up replacing the whole system.

I would also advise a system that uses a subwoofer that connects to the receiver using an RCA style sub connector. For the same reason as stated above.

This whole concept gives you one important thing. Something I would like to call "Oh Shi* Flexibility."

If you are person B:
Then ignore what I said...
