I connect my HD Cable Box via HDMI directly to my Sharp HDTV and I get great sound and audio. I can connect my Sony HD DVD player to the Sharp HDTV via HDMI and get great audio and video.

but...
when

I connect the HD Cable box via HDMI-1 to the HK 247
I connect the Sony HD DVD player via HDMI-2 to the HK247
then I connect HDMI-Out to the Sharp HDTV

I get unbeleivable video and NO AUDIO ... argh. a little window pops up which says "HDMI Audio unavailable"

please help

Do you mean no audio on the TV or on your speakers (you do have speakers connected, right?)

Though im not an expert the wii and PS3 seem to work perfect. On the 360 however I get what would look like dead pixels all over the screen. They appear to be blue in color and there are hundreds of them.
Ive changed cords and ports to no avail. If i use component connections from the xbox it works ok but seems to be blurry (may just be in my head...) so its seems to be something with HDMI and the xbox going through the 247.
After reading all these posts im going to box it up and take it back to the store. Thanks for all the posts, just wanted to post my experience in hopes it will help someone else.
i've had the same dead pixel thing as you but with my ps3.it isn't visible at first but as the receiver is on longer there appears to be more and more.i figured out that if i reduce ps3 to 1080i its fine.i know its not the cables because i'm running monster m series.also does your uncompressed audio work through ps3 via hdmi?

just joined and have a question.is anyone getting uncompressed audio to work through the receiver from a ps3?it shows a signal coming through on all 7 channels but no sound.also it doesn't have any sound coming from it if you do the auto sound adjust on the ps3.i have to manually go and highlight all 2.1,dts,and dolby.anything 5.1 and over results in a "multi ch" display on the receiver resulting in no sound, due to being uncompressed audio.hk support told me 2 different things.1st time one guy told me to reinstall ps3 firmware.second time a different guy told me the receiver only handles 2.1 uncompressed.any info?????

Default Which reveiver to buy - Harman AVR247 or Denon 1708?

Background:
Just joined the forum and am new to Audio/Video scene. Former system was the old Harman AVR20 w/Bose dbl. cube front/rear and Acoustimass; sounded good then but nothing like the systems auditioned in the Best Buy sound rooms (Denon 1708, Klipsch RW10 sub, Boston VRi555 ceiling speakers...).

Research:
Online chat/forums, retail sellers, & manufacturer websites. I am partial to the Harman line (past experience w/AVR20) but have read/heard the following; best audio for music listening use is the Harman 247; but the best home theater video w/least problems and ease of use thru HDMI cable is the Denon 1708; the more I study/read the more I learn but at the point where I need qualitative/experiential reviews on problems/merits from owners of each receiver till I can listen to the two receivers in a side by side for my own viewing and listening ear comparison.

Set-up and Intended use:
I will have four Boston VRi555 (6") ceiling mounted speakers front & rear, Boston VRC center channel in cabinet w/Sony 46"V3000 LCD TV, Klipsch RW10d sub, and a Sony Blu-Ray (or PS3 if it is true that video quality is best using the game device instead of Sony Blu-Ray DVD player) for DVD/CD use. Believe it or not, I will not be hooked up to any cable provider or satellite for TV channel use; will only view DVD movies and listen to CD's, therefore, 95% DVD intended use and 5% music listening.

Question:
Which receiver will give me best sound/video without reliability problems, the Harman Kardon AVR247 or the Denon 1708?

Thank you for any help you can provide and I apologize if the above is verbose or unnecessary but I wanted to fill you in to best understand my situation.

Thanks again!
Gary

Default Trouble with Video and Audio Pass Through

I have a 46" 1080 Sharp HDTV and a Scientific Atlanta Cable Box from Time Warner.

My understanding is that the Sci Atlanta box is already trasmitting most of its programming in 1080 or 720.

I am connecting my cable box to the AVR 247 via HDMI and then HDMI out to the TV.

There are some serious issues with hesitation between channels. Also, many times I will change a channel and it will be all snow, or it will give me a picture but no sound.

I then need to turn off the receiver and turn it back on to get the sound.

Every channel change has long hesitation and a loud "pop" when it finally finds the sound.

Can someone help?

Default Sound suddenly stopped working in HDMI 1 mode

Works fine in HDMI 2 and radio modes.

Switched around cables and same result.

Reset by holding tone button for 5 seconds, no change.

Surr modes jump around while in HDMI 1 and L&R in speaker boxes flash. Momentarily had a blip of sound when fiddling around.

Only solution is to hook up TV (Sanyo Aquos 42") directly to cablebox to get HD and sound but when you get used to sound thru the tuner and nice speakers (Accoustic Profiles), going back to the teensie tv speakers just doesn't cut it.

Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like the HK needs a firmware update...
