Being older super quality sound is not as important to me as it was when I was younger. I purchased a Bose 321 system maybe 10 years
ago, and use it for my sound. It does have very nice sound, and does
stand out with a quality dvd with my Oppo. I also had large speakers
that sounded great, but my son has them now. These small bose
speakers do a great job, but maybe not as good as CSW. The Bose
system is good but IMO overpriced for what you get. I like it but
wouldn't do it again. The system has worked flawless since I purchased
it. The older Bose 321 did not have upscaling for the dvd's.

I think Bose are worth the money, I am an owner of Bose for over twenty two years and I have never felt buyer's remorse. Yes there are other speakers out there for less but do they last as long? Just remember, you get what you pay for. I proved to myself that Bose are worth every penny and sound incredible at the same time. search for me at hub pages and read about my personal experience.

I am glad you are happy with your speakers - in the end that is all that really matters. As far as you get what you pay for-- well with BOSE you certainly do not. They are much like monster cables- way over priced. As for sound, they aren't even capable of producing all the frequencies in the audible range (there are big 'holes' in what they can play) and also they do not give a flat frequency response but rather emphasize certain frequencies to give the auditory illusion they are performing at a higher level than they actually are which is one of the reasons that they refuse to publish the specs of their speakers and will sue magazines who give them bad reviews. They also prohibit dealers from having other systems set up near them for direct comparison as then the shortcomings are easily noticed. As far as lasting - Bose uses paper cones while other credible manufacturers are using materials such as kevlar, titanium, or advanced polymers.
For my 7.1 Paradigm set-up I paid less than a lifestyle/acoustimass system from BOSE got a 5 yr warranty and as many will tell you they will last probably 15-20 yrs if not longer. Anybody who has heard my set-up (or many others on this forum not just paradigm) will tell you between them and BOSE there is no comparison.

I was once a BOSE owner as well but thanks to this forum was shown the light. The absolute best advice I have ever received on this forum was that BOSE produces inferior sound at exorbitant prices and to stay far away. On the other hand they do excel at the Wife Acceptance Factor and make you seem way cool to the unenlightened

Nice way to put it. I would be like that as well if I had bought into it. The best way to respond after the advice offered is, "It's your money"! It's your system, you must endure it, not me.

It's all relative. To me? No. Overpriced, under preforming.

I have the acoustimas module from a Bose Lifestyle 50 Home Theatre system. Can this be connected to a surround/home theatre system made by someone other than Bose?

There is a little ryme: not sure : "no highs, no lows, -that's Bose!"
NOt sure if that's it- but ask any trained stereo equipment salesperson, they will tell you the same. Look in any high end equipment store- you will never ever see Bose in them. MOst audio manufacters make high end stuff. You will see many names you know in a high end store, but no- sorry no Bose. Maybe many years ago, some came close, but that was like 40 yrs ago. Today? all hype and BS!
