Post Considering raising the height of my surround speakers

Hi all,

I've wall mounted my surround speakers slightly behind me and at 1.5ft above ear level. They sound great but the challenge is that they are low enough for absent minded people to potentially bump their heads on them. To keep my speakers safe, I'm considering raising them to about 4ft above ear level. Has anyone done this and do you think it will have any real negative effects on the sound quality?

I have mine mounted just below the ceiling pointing downwards, this puts them out of harms way.

Do you like the way they sound that close to the ceiling? I'd probably put them 7ft high and my ceilings are 10ft.

Works for me, and sounds great, but I have a Yamaha system, it has a way to automatically setup the sound.

You use a small microphone (supplied with the receiver) located at the primary listening spot when the system was first setup, and it will adjust things for you.

Thanks for the feedback. I've also got a Yamaha amp with the setup microphone. We're about to have a baby any day so it will have to wait a month or so. Hope my surrounds survive until then at their current location.

Congratulations on the baby..

And just put something in front of them till you can move them, shin bruises go away.
