Default Old receiver, chromecast

It's my first time posting on this site, so I hope I put this question in the right area of the site.

I have an older receiver, and the only way I know to connect it to something to use it, is one set of av input. I've always just ran audio from my 360 through the receiver with an hdmi going to the tv for sound and muted the tv.

I just got a Google chromecast and am wondering if there's a way to have it play through the surround sound.
The only theory I have is maybe there's a way to plug the chromecast usb into the xbox and somehow play the video through the xbox.

Any help would be appreciated.

Does your TV have passthrough for audio to the receiver? You can't just plug the chrome cast into the receiver, or the TV?

What model AVR and TV? That way we can see if it has ARC available . BTW, don't mute the tv speakers. Go into the menu and turn them off. Leaving them on can mess with the AVRs auto lip sync .
Edit . Oh crap. Didn't see this was a necro bump.
