Ya I think im going to go with that denon 4520CI 150 WPC. Did some research and it appears that onkyo's commonly run hot.

Have been reading about the THX certification as well - cant tell if its all hype or if it actually makes a difference. Any thoughts on that?

So im trying to decide between the Denon 4520CL, the Yamaha Aventage RXA3020 and the Pioneer Elite SC77 or SC79.

I read a review on Digital Trends and the reviewers stated the midrange sounds on the Denon were flat and lifeless and that the overall audio performance was beat by the Yamaha above.

Then I looked into THX certified receivers and those two pioneers came up. My question is this - if you take out the price difference, which one of those receivers do you think is the best as far as audio/video quality AND most future proof.

Yamaha Yamaha Yamaha. 40 plus years now and all ive owned is Yamaha. my first one i messed up by shorting out two of the speaker wires, never had it fixed by yamaha. second was remote control, still works like new but wanted the new Advantage series. believe it was best buy marked down to $700.00, or maybe it was $600. RX-A1020 is what i bought. would of loved of gotten one of the newer, more powerful, models but they weren't on sale. to show how good they are, ive been pushing a pair of Jamo 707i tower speakers = best sound ive ever heard, and no problems in the last year. i did finally mount a fan on top to be safe. and my receiver is set to 6 ohm, no 4 ohm setting on it. i use it every day, tv movies and even music.

Not sure if the OP is still monitoring this thread but just in case something to know is that the new Pioneer Elite Sc line are class D amps (digital but that is not what the "D" stands for). This means they are much closer to 80% efficient than a class A amp and run much much cooler.

ive said it more than a few times, ive owned three receivers, all Yamaha, first one i messed up by crossing the speaker wires, it was bought back in the 70's, second, surround sound and remote, still works great but wanted something with HDMI in and out, bought the Yamaha Advantage, love it.
