Default Subwoofer question

Wow, it seems really weird posting in this section without Loves2watch to steer me in the right direction. He was a champion in this section.

Anyway on to my situation: I have been running a 7.1 speaker sound system in my HT. Recently my sub amp died. Turned out a local repair shop is going to be able to fix my sub for a reasonable cost so I am getting it repaired. In the meantime I managed to secure a replacement sub for a phenomenal price. When I get my original sub back I am going to run a 7.2 system and use both subs since my AVR has 2 sub outputs and will calibrate and room correct both. Since this is my first 2 sub set-up my question is will I get a cumulative effect, meaning increased SPL and more "slam" or will it be more of a wider , smoother soundfield. The range and low frequency of my original sub is great but there are times I wish it had a bit more oomph in HT mode (for music it is just fine).

If it matters the subs are HSU VTF-2 + Bower and Wilkins ASW610

Jkk my guess is placement will determine what sound you get.
Wrong placement = boomy
Correct = smooth and balanced.
I think JR runs 2. Asking him should answer some questions.

Yep - with just the B+W sub music was great but it couldn't quite cut it for HT Movie use. Now that my other is back I have them set-up , configured and room corrected and it sounds fantastic. Found out that typically you get around a 3db boost in SPL with additional sub from room gain provided you have no standing wave or cancellation issues which is in line with what I measured. Overall it sounds great now and if I bother to 'open the port' and run the HSU in HT mode along with the B+W it really has that slam. Typically though I keep it in 1 port mode to get that deep low end down to about 18-20 hz.
rbinck and ImRizzo like this.
