Default Help I Need To be Schooled !

Ok hope this would be the right place to post this ...
I have an Onkyo NR515 7.2
I have it set up as 5.1.
Center speaker is a 15 year old Paradigm most likely CC150
Front speakers are 15+ year old Pioneer home stereo CS-C9000
Rear speakers are 15 year old Paradigm small book shelf maybe Atoms ?Don't even know if they were called that name back then.
Sub is a 15 year old Paradigm that hits at the floor top and 4 sides are solid. Sounds good , rattles the walls etc.

Ok now to what I apparently need schooled on...
I was in at the local Paradigm store and was talking to them about maybe upgrading my center channel and fronts.
The guy said I really needed to listen to the Golden Ear New Triton Seven front tower speakers. Their lowest tower speaker..
So we go into one room, he puts in the demo dvd and they sounded good ! I asked what receiver they were hooked up to he said it was an NAD receiver 60watts per channel.
He then turned on the Golden Ear SuperCenter XL which again sounded good !.
We then went into the next room where they had the Paradigm speakers Moniter 11 down to he 7's.
And the Paradigm monitor Center 3 and 1
Neither sounded as nice as the Golden Ear...

Saying all the above , I noticed he had to turn the volume up to 70.
At home I never turned mine up past say 45...

So to speed up and get to the point they let me demo the GE's , I paid a refundable deposit and they delivered the Triton Seven tower speakers the following day, the guy went through the talking/set up and never really said alot. He left, the next day (last night ) we stopped in and did the same deposit and brought home the GE Super Center XL.
Hooked it up , put in a half dozen different BR movies to cds , switched the sounds around Dolby, all channel , stereo etc.
We honestly couldn't tell/get a WOW what a difference effect !!!
The only difference in the center channel was at the same volume level 20 the GESCXL was louder...
Yes the old center Paradigm sounds like its coming out of a square little 6X9X20 box.. BUT

The GE Triton Seven towers are $700 each and the XL center speaker is $800.
We certainly setting here listening to them do not nor cannot justify $2200.00 for these speakers !

We cranked up the volume to 60-70 with our old set up and honestly cannot tell that big of a difference ....

What am I doing wrong ? Do I need a bigger wattage receiver ? Morantz, NAD , What I don't know ???

Would appreciate any comments , thanks.
I still have the speakers till Friday or sooner if I choose to call them and they will come and get them ...

Hard to justify that money if you can't tell the difference. Why do you want to change speakers?

Don't worry about where the volume knob is - that is more a function of speaker efficiency and nothing really to do with how they sound. Did you calibrate your or adjust your speaker levels or did you just 'hook them up'? At the end of the day just choose what sounds best to you that you can afford. If you were happy with your paradigms before I would recommend looking at bookshelf size paradigms again (FWIW I love Paradigm but there are many fine brands out there).

Thought I needed the latest greatest I guess lol ?
No just tired at looking at those big ugly old pioneer speakers for fronts and thinking I could get better sound out of a smaller set of ?...

I know in those audio tech magazines or any magazine it seems who is paying the most for advertisement in them are the ones that the articles are getting all the hype about their product. These GoldenEar Triton speakers in the wright-ups are all the craze and won this award and that award , so when I got these to Demo I was expecting to oooh and ahhh over the sound , instead its WTH !!!

The tech/sales guy that brought them out , hooked them up and went through my settings, I had done the Onkyo auto set up where you put the funnel looking thing in the sweet spot and let it do its thing, then I went back in and tweeked the levels abit. The guy pretty much did the same thing when he brought the Towers out...
Now last night when we brought the center speaker home, we just hooked it up and then went into the listening mode and tried different settings ,dolby, multichannel etc...
Then switched out the speakers back and forth a few different times and only difference we could tell was the the GE XL center was louder guess maybe because its almost twice as big ?
