Default Issue with my Samsung HDMI output

I own the Samsung surround sound system HT-AS730. It has three HDMI inputs and one output. From the output I have a 40ft HDMI cable running to a projector unit in the back of the room. However, when plugged in, the image flashes in colors, mostly green. The projector is not getting a good signal.

What is the problem? Is there perhaps a power saver mode on the unit that reduces the signal strength and thus will not work with such a long cable?

I don't know where to start.

Thank you all for the support!

This is what C/net had to say about this sound system:

The bad: Video is pass-through only--no upconversion from analog to HDMI; illogical and sometimes confusing input system; display nearly impossible to read; finicky HDMI ports; confusing setup; subpar sound quality for the price.

The bottom line: The Samsung HT-AS730's unimpressive sound quality, finicky HDMI ports, unreadable display, and tedious input system will have you looking elsewhere for a Blu-ray-ready home theater package.

What type of signal are you sending to the Samsung? My Onkyo will not properly pass through 1080P from my Blu-Ray player-- 1080i is just fine, but 1080P "flickers" (but it is fine if connected directly to the TV). Signal type is a long shot-- your problem is probably the long cable-- or the "finicky" HDMI ports .

Everything Rick-F said.

You could try bypassing your Samsung AVR to test the 40 foot cable itself. If it works that way, it's probably your AVR as mentioned. If it proves to be your AVR, you could try an HDMI extender at the AVR to see if that would help. Chances are, it can't drive the 40 foot cable, but a booster might make the difference. If it's a 1080i versus 1080p problem, then even a booster won't help since the HDMI signal is probably being corrupted going through your AVR.

Extenders are available at Monoprice if you decide to try one.

I would recommend an external 5 Volt power supply for the extender since HDMI power from your Samsung might be an issue.

My friends,

I appreciate this greatly! Other, shorter HDMI cables have worked from the Samsung to the projector before, simply not this extensively long cable. Therefore, I will purchase a booster and give it a shot.

Thank you fella's for your time and help. Keep up the posting!

You're more than welcome. Please let us know if an extender does the job.
