Default found old SS system, looking for a reciever

I found an old Sony SS TS20 system in my garage thats about to thrown out and hope I can put it to good use. I have no idea what to look for when shopping for good recievers so i hope you guys can guide me there!

I'm not looking for anything really fancy. Actually i'm looking for some bargain basement stuff. Right now i'm just using the speakers on my TV. I'm looking to hook it up to my xbox 360, blu ray player, and laptop on occasions. Here are some pictures to give you guys an idea of the surround sound system I'd like to get back up.

so i pretty much need a receiver that takes in HDMI's and those cable/wire things for the speakers right?
and what are those called anyways? Those little slots you put the wire in.

Also, how would i get sound from my TV to go through the sound system? Like what plug would I need to go from the TV to the receiver?
And if I were to do that, then I wouldn't need HDMI in my receiver, correct? I can just plug my xbox 360 and blu-ray player into the TV and have all the TV sound go through the receiver and into the sound system, right?

there are 2 types, optical, and coax, the coax looks like an RCA connector. don't use a RCA cable. The lines from the TV should go to the sony, If it has the correct inputs. ( digital)
The proper route is: Blu-ray and x-box through the sony 1st, then on to tv. if no hdmi on sony go direct to tv, sound then should still come from the scource, via another route. ( analog)
