Default About To Purchase New Onkyo 7.1 Surround System

Hey guys,

I found this forum the other day and have been cruising it for a while. I saw Accessories4Less suggested to people on multiple occasions with positive comments. After looking at other suggestions I think I'm going to purchase the refurbished Onkyo HT-S6300 7.1-Channel Home Theater Package.

I just wanted to see everyone's thoughts on that since this would be my first home theater system I'm going to buy. I live in a decent sized apartment right now, but I think this would last me for a while. My pop has an old Onkyo AV receiver and it seems to work pretty well.

Would this be a good first system, or would you recommend something else in the <$350 or so price range.

Thanks! Also I am not allowed to post the URL to what I was looking at since this is my first post, sorry about that.

Just my 2 cents worth, my son bought into HT in a box, and although he was satisfied with the avr, he ended up replacing the speakers. I'm one who belives firmly that amps and avr's should be left to those who specalize in that field, Speakers are a whole different thing altogether. Speaker makers have dedicated labs to improve sonic ability's. anyone can put speakers in a box.

You can get real good advice here as to which speaker to match the avr with. Polks/Cerwin Vega/Orb/ lots of good manes, avoid Bose/Infinity(too box like of a sound), and the white van scammers.

I have had the Onkyo 7.1 receiver for about 5 years, I really like it. I bought mine from a friend. I don't have the best speakers and it still sounds great.

You won't do better in that price range. When you start talking separate AVR and speaker packages you are talking significantly higher budgets to make it worthwhile.

Agreed, it's a great starting point, you can always update your speakers at a later point.
