Default New house... Looking for a budget setup

I just got a 60in plasma for our new living room. The room has vaulted ceilings, but is not actually that large, so there is not that much echoing. The rear wall is actually the stairs up to the 2nd floor with a hi ceiling above. To the right is a dining area and to the left is the wall. I'm basically looking for a sub $1000 setup. I have a toddler so a big theatre system isn't something I am looking into right now. At first I was just looking into a soundbar, but some posts on here got me thinking about going just one more step. Excuse the noob question, but is there such thing as a 2.1 setup? Recommendations? Or would a soundbar with a sub be good enough? Again and recommendations?

I would reccomend this:
http://www.newaudiovideo.com/paradig...ikggv5h20ga8r3

paired with something like this:
http://www.accessories4less.com/make...eceiver/1.html

That would leave you just shy of $1000 and would offer you the flexibility of running 2.0 stereo, 2.1 stereo with sub, 3.0 Left right center, 3.1 left right center + sub, or 5.1 with smaal footprint speakers that sound fantastic for the price and the receiver is pretty robust with features , is a high quality Denon and will allow you to expand later to 7.1 if you wish (or to add 2 separate speakers elsewhere (provided you run wires (or use a wireless transmitter). All top notch components that will last you for years and years (paradigm all come with 5 yr factory warranty). Etc - I think you will be amazed how well evrything (especially home cinema) sounds

Thanks for the reply. I really like that the avr isn't that expensive. Any hints as to how to hide the wires? I have wood floors. How about wireless speakers for the satellites? There are plugs right next to where I would put the satellites. I'm not a super audiophile, so as long as it sounds decent.
