When you get it let me know if it rocks that new system. Though at $140 you might be a bit biased.... LOL

The formats dvd audio and sacd are alive and well. ref,:
www.sa-cd.net / and www.quadraphonicquad.com / and www.acousticsounds.com, and there are more. Although it's true there are not many dvd audio discs being made at this time, they continue to produce them. A correct way to state this is the fomats are a niche product. Look on ebay and see some oop titles are selling for good $$. THat sold new for avg. $20.00! And the best blu ray players have the capability to play both formats still being made, all for a 'dead" format? True more and more stuff is being put on BD disc, but that does not mean the other formats are done with. Look at quad. Never died. with all the confusion and manufacturer formats of quad, it contiues on, now as DTS or on disc, in the way of - you guessed it- sacd /dvd -audio. DSOTM immersion set/they just released a sacd of "machine Head" in quad format. WYWH immersion set. Slow, would be a better word and tell an audiophile sacd is dead. These guys live for that shit.

LOL. That's why I put dead in parentheses. Plenty of people still into these formats I wish one or the other would have taken off and become mainstream.

There are many who feel this way. It is the record companies that stick it up our collective ass. It has something to do with licensing, and ownership. Steely dan had one hell of a time trying to put out "Gaucho" on dvd -a and sacd (that has just released) and I hear that they are trying to do another album in high res. There are some who defy and are obtaining the rights to stuff like King Crimson, and there is an outfit in Germany that is starting to do dvd audio stuff, no afraid to produce them knowing there is a market especially in the EU countries. The formats are very popular there and in aisa people are nuts over sacd's! And check out amazon. do a search for dvd audio and look at what they are selling for. Ebay is worse. At the QQ site there is a post that has all the recent ebay listings of quad/sacd/dvd-a, that are selling for big bucks, I can't belive what people are willing to pay for oop stuff. a copy of machine head sold for $300.00, dvd audio, so it shows folks are contiueing to discover the formats and wishing they had long ago.

I love Gaucho. I have several of the Steely Dan and all of the Donald Fagen albums in surround and think all are great.

As far as SACD or DVD-A for popular music, not much will happen from now on. SACD survives as a classical music niche format and we have seen some DVD-As recently from Steven Wilson, Porcupine Tree, King Crimson and a few others mostly as a result of Steven Wilson's efforts but I hope he moves on to Blu-ray.

Default CES interview with 2 greats of MC music

This year is the year ( I hope) for people to get mc music. With blu ray becoming more popular and more people getting HT setups, It's just natural- "Did you like how the movie sounded? Then you will love music that way"! simple, everything is in place for it to take off this time. remember that statement, and spread the word. more and more music is being put on BD. The opportunity is right there. The means are there, now all that must be done is to educate. The interview is on utube. A. parsons and e. Schiener, disscussing the future on MC formats. ( parsons produced dark side of the moon) Original production in quad, and schiener has done among others the new Clapton remix of Derek and the dominos, in MC, and it's great. Once heard it gets into your head.

That is an extraordinary DVD-A. If only their entire catalog was available this way.

2012 had a surprising number of high profile SACD releases. And the Doors catalog is coming in mulitchannel SACD in March. So the format is far from dead. Pricey & niche, yet. But still kicking.
