Default No surround sound from Tron Legacy Bluray

Hello,

I posted this at the end of another topic but realize I probably should have started my own thread, so I am starting a new thread for this now.

I recently bought Tron Legacy Bluray. The only English sound settings in the menu on the bluray are English 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, English 2.0 Dolby Digital, and English 2.0 Dolby Digital Descriptive Video Service. I have a 5.1 surround sound system. When I select 7.1 I get no sound from my rear speakers. If I select the 2.0 Dolby Digital, then I get sound from the rear speakers, but I don't believe it is true surround? Am I missing something?

TV: Sony KDL-52XBR4
Reciever: Panasonic SA-HE100
DVD Player: Sony BDP-S570 Blu-ray Disc Player

I have the optical audio out from the blu-ray player going to an optical input on the reciever. The reciever is set to 5.1 surround (and I have 5 speakers and a subwoofer set up). This is the first time I've had a problem. Other DVD's and TV play fine (although I don't think I own any other 7.1 DVD's).

I noticed that the screen of my reciever still shows an image for all 5 speakers as if it is playing in 5.1 surround, but I hear nothing from two rear speakers. My receiver is capable of 6.1 surround sound (as it has an output for a center back speaker) but I do not have a center back speaker connected so I only use 5.1.

I just tested my DVD on my friends reciever (he has a Yamaha RX-V367) also set up in 5.1. And on his, I can hear surround in the rear speakers when 7.1 is selected from the DVD. So I guess there is either some setting I need to change in my reciever (although I couldn't find anything), or my reciever is so old it will not play 7.1 audio through 5.1??

Thank you.

That's a not uncommon complaint from people using S/PDIF connections about that particular disc. It sends stereo instead of DTS. Does the same thing happen with any other discs you play?

So far I have not noticed this with any other disc, but I believe this is the first disc I've tried that has 7.1 surround. All of my others only offer stereo or 5.1.

A TrueHD or dts-MA 7.1 track will be output as standard DD 5.1 or DTS over an optical connection. It looks like there's something wrong with this particular release where the optical output is sometimes stereo instead of 5.1. I wouldn't worry that there's a bigger problem with your equipment.

What bothers me is that on my friend's system the rear speakers work with the 7.1 output.

Default Tron

I run HDMI from my Blu-ray player to my reciever, and then HDMI from receiver to HDTV. Never had a problem with 5.1 or 7.1 audio.
