To keep you from possbly damaging your pioneer AVR or setting your house on fire, I suggest that you thoroughy read the following 2 links. They will show you exactly how great your MTS speakers are. Whoever gave them to you probably did so knowing they couldn't possibly sell them.

Must be two 250 watt Pio's in bridged mode to get to the 500

Please save us all.

I think he said the speakers were rated for 500 watts max (far, far off I think), and that he was powering them at 250 watts, which is also far off. You'd need one hell of a Pioneer amp/avr to get anywhere near that power, and I'm not sure Pioneer currently offers one.

NO SUCH ANIMAL

Watts Per Channel (WPC)
Watts equates to how much power is being driven to the speakers calculated in watts per channel (WPC). If you have a 700-watt, 7.1 channel receiver, the amplifier inside the receiver has to divvy up those 700 watts between each of the 7.1 channels (100 watts for each channel). What about the .1 channel? That is for the subwoofer which has its own preamp inside the speaker box so it doesn’t need or use any of the WPC. Those 100 WPC don’t sound as powerful as a 700-watt system but you’re getting those 100 watts some seven times over plus the boom sounds from the subwoofer.

Even when I had my 90wpc tx-sr606 hooked up, at about 3/4 volume (power)you would damage/destroy your hearing long before you ran out of power.

Power <> loudeness and loudness<>quality. Loud crappy sound is just that- loud & crappy sounding
