rbinck,

The link you gave me is with an AVR and i do not have an AVR.

As to the dialogue coming from all channels i got that sorted out. In all other media players the dialogue comes from all the channels even after configuring them. But in Videolan player the moment i select Audio Device to 5.1 the dialogue comes exactly from the center channel.

The first part about Dolby Surround is applicable to all Dolby Surround. That reply was in responce to the question about the stereo output being able to produce 5.1 surround. That's the nature of general articles, they rarely match exactly to any given system and it is up to the reader to pick out what is applicable.

rbinck,

I think i have an option to use LG dv387 digital out coaxial through my onboard Realtek sound card as the board has a SPDIF_IO header for input/output. currently trying to make the cable to connect the pins.

what should the output stream on the LG DV387 (Dolby & DTS ) be set to PCM or Bitstream ?

Can i use a RCA cable on the digital out coaxial ?

yes you can use coax cable. Bitstream would be probably best if it works, otherwise PCM.

rbinck,

Alrighty.

I am a bit confused regarding speakers having a THX certified logo or DD or DTS logo. What does it actually mean ?

Would not any other 5.1 speakers be having the same performance?

Can two sub woofers be used in a home theater ?

TXH: THX - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DD: Dolby Digital - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DTS: DTS - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Since THX is a peformance standard, it is unlikely that all speakers would have similar performance.

Yes you can use multiple subwoofers, but you can run into a cancelation of bass with more than one due to phasing issues. One kick butt sub is generally preferred vs multiple so-so subs.

rbinck,

A friend of mine has Logitech Z-5500 THX certified speakers and a Dolby digital demo CD, well i did not find any difference between my non-THX Altec's against the Logitech THX certified speakers.

Do you have any knowledge about the Jamo speakers against JBL's, i will be looking @5.1 within the next 3-5 months.
