A picture IS NOT worth a thousand words in this case...

What is the rating of the output device and what are the ratings of the speakers?

By connecting more than 1 wire to any terminal you run a very good chance of blowing the amp in the sub. I would recommend not doing it. Get a real surround system.

Default Speakers

Indeed. Without knowing the power handling capabilities and resistance of the speakers, it would be impossible to give you an answer. Also, we would need to know the power output and load ratings of the receiver. And, as L2W stated, if you're planning on hooking more than 1 speaker to an output, don't do it. You'll blow your receiver for sure.
