Could you give a little more detail about what they told you? Are they refusing to cover it under warranty? Or are you upset because they won't pay for return shipping?

My brother had a 2 month old Yamaha RX-V1800 brick, and he had to drive an hour and a half to exchange it. I guess you don't recommend buying those either.

Everyone has had a bad experience one time or another. I wouldn't drive a Ford if it was free. Onkyo makes a good product, just not yours . Good luck. I hope things get worked out for you.

Which model do you have? The X06 line of AVRs are known to have had a bad batch of HDMI boards installed. Please see the below threads for reference.

It's likely not just his. There have been LARGE quantities of the X06 line of AVRs that were produced with faulty HDMI Boards. See the above links to other threads here at HDF for reference. There are also many, many pages of complaints at AVS in the owners threads.

AWOL - did you get your AVR back yet? Man I feel really lucky with a service center right by me. For my dealer to send mine in was going to take 4-6 weeks turn around but when you bring iot in personally to the center you get A+ service. Initially when I took mine in on Mon. It was ready by friday. Even better is the $10 diagnostic fee - will determine what is wrong with virtually anything thaty has a plug on it and provide a repair estimate for $10 - can't beat that. I have taken many electronics there to see if repair cost is really worht it.

No. Not yet.

They are local here in Dallas, but due to the number of faulty boards out in the wild, the replacement part has been backordered for weeks. I guess they must be shipping them via boat from Asia.

$10 "look at" fee is pretty awesome actually! Can't beat that. The place I took it to normally charges $95 just to look at it. Then if you decide to move forward with repairs, it's absorbed back into the total. Luckily, mine is still covered by warranty.

AWOL - Yea the $10 fee kicks ass. When my 1st projector (which shorted out my board in the 606) needed looked at everyplace wanted $100 just to look at it + shipping. The service center is authorized for many diff brands and can fix about anything so to find out it would be $700 to fix my projector cost me only $10 and they also credit the 10 towards repair. IMO the 10 fee gets the greatest word of mouth advertising around. I have had many friends and relatives take everything from laptops to gps to tv's there as a result. Great word of mouth business for them. They also do consignment sales or will dispose of stuff you do not want repaired (I assume they cannibalize them for themselves.

(I have bought broken stuff off e-bay simply because I can find out what is wrong so cheap. Most notably my tx-nr905 for about $200 , $10 to diagnose and another $75 for repair less than $300 for a great AVR)

I've owned Onkyo gear of different kinds for past 4 years, no problems. I have heard that the CS does suck balls tho.
