Which two speaker channels do I leave blank? The L & R surround or the L & R rear surround? Thanks for your help.

Ben

for 5.1 eliminate the rear surrounds

I have a question: I have a 5.1 sound system and trying to hook it up. can I get some help. I have a receiver and a dvd. I am trying to tie this all together through my 62 inch tv

Well do not connect through tv, rather thru to it. All connections (audio and video) should connect to the receiver, and one HDMI from receiver to TV. You wll then leave the tv on that input and switch your sources via the recever.

For some reason he just copied and pasted post #3 on the first page. Not sure why, unless there was not an original thought available.

That user has like 45 posts and every single one I have seen has been a cut and post of previous info in the thread.

Yep, they are all gone now. There was an invisible image in each post that only mods can see. So he is gone and so is his posts.

I have a Yamaha 5.1 system and it seems like the best setting for sports and most other things is "5.1 Enhancer." Anybody have any experience with using the other modes? I did notice that "Sci Fi" worked pretty well on War of the Worlds the other night when it was on TV, but other than that, it seems like 5.1 Enhancer is louder from all the speakers.

If that is pleasing for you then use it. Most 5.1 material do not always have sound from all speakers. Only when needed for a surround effect.

You can still have a 5.1 set-up on a 7.1 system. Just do not hook up anything in the jacks where there are no speakers. I am not sure why you would want a 7.1 system if you are not planning on hooking up 7 speakers, especially if the current 5.1 set-up was working. My only guess is that you are future-proofing your set-up and plan to add them later.

I sure am enjoying my basement bedroom surround sound set-up.

My bed is such that the TV screen and front speaker distances are 7 feet to my eyes and ears. Perfect! The 2 side surround speakers are suspended 2 feet above ear level, slightly behind my head, and directed down at my ears.

The front bookshelf speakers are right at ear level with the center slightly above ear level, but tilted down toward my head. The center speaker is directly under the TV and the 2 front mains are angled in towards my head, too.

Distance apart on the front main is 7 feet and the same with the side surrounds.

I have thought about putting in 1 ceiling speaker in my SMALL 12 X 8 area, to see if any more effect.
