Unhappy Samsung HD 950

Hi- when i attempted to setup my DVD player to match my Dell plasmas native resolution there wasn't a 768p option in the OSG. all info at Dell says my TV is 768 x 1024 and the literature on the Samsung says it supports 768! anyone know why i couldn't make the connection?? thanks in advance for any/all help! scott

If you have the HD950 connected by HDMI, try hitting HDMI SEL on the remote to toggle to the 768p resolution. As far as I know, it only works over HDMI.

Hi Chris- i just tried your suggestion with the same result. only 480,720 & 1080 were available. i am using an HDMI cable. is there some other setting that i may have "hit" that would prevent 768? if i am unable to use the 768, which of the other 3 would you recommend? thanks again for all your help!! Scott

Chris- just got thru to Samsungs' 2nd level tech support: 768p is a misprint, the HD950 doesn't support 768. he said to set it to 720 and the pq won't suffer too much. what say you??? i think you know more than him! thanks-scott

I have my HD950 connected by component using the hack to permit upscaling over component. If I hit HDMI SEL, it toggles through 480p, 720p, 768p and 1080i. The 768p over component with the hack isn't 768p but the display resolution indicated by the onscreen display is 768p (1024x768). I had apparently incorrectly assumed HDMI would support 768p since the firmware has an onscreen display for the resolution. My projector indicates it is really 480p when I select 768p. I use 720p with my projector which is a 720p projector and I am very happy with the picture. I would try 480p and 720p and see which you think is best. It may take a while before you decide but you should be able to switch between the resolutions and eventually make an opinion. Since 1024x768 is 4:3 and 720p is 16:9, I am not sure it will look best but I suspect it will.

If you have a component connection open to your display, you might try the angle hack which permits upscaling over component and then toggle through the resolutions. The remote angle hack will permit you to try what the player indicates is 768p (1024x768) over component.

Power on if off
Angle
4327
Angle

The setup video display must indicate HDMI/Component P-scan and the HDMI SEL button will toggle through all 4 resolutions.
