Lightbulb Scrolling through the inputs on a Sony

I've got some great advice during my short time in this forum, so thought I'd pass along a tip that I just found on my Sony KDF42WE655. I'm sure it's not new information for most of the experts here, but it was something that had been bothering me since I bought my TV a couple weeks ago, so maybe there are some people who'll find this useful too.

The TV has 7 different inputs and I thought it was annoying that I had to scroll through all 7, even if I didn't have anything hooked up on one (my budget wont allow me to get a component for every input yet )

You can go into the TV menu and put a label on each input. One of the choices for a label is "Skip". By doing this you wont stop on this input as you're moving from DVD to cablebox to Tivo (etc.)

Now (as far as I know) there's still no way to go directly to a specific input, but this is still an improvement.

I had heard about this a little while back, but it never hurts to spread the knowledge.

If you get a programmable remote like the Universal Remote, Inc. MX-850 there are discrete video input buttons for that Sony TV.

Samsung for the win! One thing I've always loved about, most, samsung TV's...it only scrolls to devices that are hooked up. Granted that means you still have to jump through a few...but instead of having to go through 7, or tell it specifically to skip (and turn that off when you add a device)...if nothing is hooked up, it won't go to it (aside from coax input, always hits that one).

As mentioned, you can get universal remotes that do that. If you don't want to have to worry about programming, you can pick-up sony universals and, if you have all sony products, everything should work right off the bat. The sony commanders and logitech harmony remotes are both very nice.
