I have a WS-65313 with the no power up blinking light of death, but i can't seem to locate the caps that everyone is referring to. Any help would be appreciated. Maybe some pics of the DM board and caps. I think I found the DM board but there aren't any 1000uf caps on this board.

According to one set of instructions I've found, this problem occurs in the following models:

WS-48513, WS-55513, WS-65513, WS-73513, WS-48613, WS-65613, WS-65713, WS-73713, WS-55813, WS-65813

I believe, however that this problem occurs in many more models than the ones listed above: For example, my WS-55613 was not listed but the same symptoms and repair procedure applied to it as well. It works fine now, BTW.

I rec'd an email from another guy who saw this post, and sent him two different repair procedure instructions, along with "amendments" to each, based on my personal experience. I did not take photos during the process of completing my repair, but wish I had now.

I'll be happy to forward the same info (both sets of instructions do include photos) to anyone that wants them. Just email me thru this website and I'll forward them to you.

I have the ws65813. This set has always had a random sort of shut down green light for 1 minute situation. But now the situation has become permanent, the green light never stops flashing despite resets, unplugging, begging, etc.

I would be very interested in the instructions for repair. Please if have time, send them to (no spaces) s p a m @ p o r t 2 0 0 2 . c o m.

Although I paid over $4,500 for this set in 2004 , I'd replace it with a ~$2K wall mount LCD before spending $1,000 just to have someone repair it with $10.00 in parts. I have always thought the picture on the set was blurry, bad convergence (even after using the grid to config) and warped anyway. It looked a lot better in the store.

Anyway, Id love to repair this set before giving up on it. Thanks for your time and help.

Your TV would look AMAZING if you spent some money on a ISF calibration. I have a 65511 and was looking at replacing it with a new DLP set. I spent several hours with some DLP sets and have to say, my 4 year old TV still looks way better than any that I saw. The one exception was a Pioneer 65" Plasma, that thing was a dream to look at, but at over $6000 I'll have to pass.

CRT RPTV's still have the best picture technology available, they just need some TLC...

Default blinking light of death fixed with new capacitors

Paul

20 minutes - Remove covers and DM board

1 minute - verify capacitors are as described

2 hours - Drive to Radio Shack, find they are all out of this Capacitor (they had 85c but not 105c). Drove to Fry's, also out. Made several calls trying to find a small electronics part outlet, finally found one about to close for the day, raced out and bought them just in time. SWEET!!! - total cost of parts: .45c x 4 = $1.80 + tax. total cost of gas: $7.50.

20 minutes - Remove old caps

15 minutes - Install new caps (slightly taller, but a little coaxing got them into the shield.

30 minutes - Button up all plugs, wire routing etc and test.

SUCCESS!!!!!!!!

I watched several hours of TiVo just to make sure it wasn't a dream.

Thank you very much for passing on these instructions and saving me somewhere between $400 - $1000 to have someone come repair it.

Thanks!!!

I'm in the middle of the same issue. Here is the thread I'm using. Not sure if it pertains to your model, but check it out. (delete spaces)

I'm not allowed to hyperlink until I've posted 5 times. These are not MY instructions, just a thread I found useful. I need to get some capacitors before I can do the fix. Again, it may not pertain to your model, but my model (WS-55511) looks like the pictures in the thread. Just go to google and do a search for

"OMG - I just fixed my TV (Mits WS-55859) Thanks Everyone"

It should pop up on a couple of websites.

The link in the OP is dead.
This apparently has to do with older sets.

thompst,

I just went through the extended warranty gauntlet with Mits Digital Electronics on my 62825. I got the blinking green light, would not turn on. Called Mits and they sent out local repair place to pick up set in early Jan. Guying picking it up said I'd have it back by superbowl. Well, friends came over and we watched the big game on my 34" Sony. About 6 weeks in, I started calling the local repair place on a regular basis. They first blamed a "power board" that was backordered. I called Mits and got them involved with the local place and the part was expedited to the shop. Finally got the board but that didn't fix it. Then they were waiting on a "digital board" ...indefinite backorder. They had my TV for 2 months at that point and I am calling four times a week. Local shop said the technical help line at Mits says that the 62825 digital board is discontinued as of early March. I call Mits and they say they will have the board sent to them and they will repair the board and it will be 3 weeks turnaround to the repair shop. At that point I had it. The guy at Mits was really trying but I was getting "I feel bad but there's nothing else I can do." So, I politely said thanks for the effort but a three month repair is unreasonable so I sent a demand for payment of $5,000+ (The original purchase price) since they couldn't repair in a reasonable time and they didn't want to replace it. I sent the demand to Service Plan Inc as well the Mits office in Irvine. Two days later I got a call from Mits offering me a 65833 replacement set. I ended up paying the local guy 1k more to deliver a 73833 and I couldn't be happier. The picture is much better than the old set and it's 1080p. Bulb seems brighter because I don't have to shut my shades to watch the new set. Well, I hope you don't end up wasting 4 months like I did. Good luck on the repair.

Default I need to know WHERE to send the instructions

Hi all:

I have rec'd numerous requests by private message from people who ask me to send them the repair instructions, but fail to give me their email addresses.

The best way to contact me is to click on my username above my avatar, select "Send email to Paul D318", and send me an email with your email address. This will save me the time of having to P.M. you back to get you to send it to me.

Also, it has come to my attention that the link in my original post on this thread is no longer active: http://www.fixya.com/howto/h159332-m...m_board_repair.

I do have a .pdf document with photos of this repair I got from somewhere else to assist you in locating and R & R'ing the DM board for this repair job, that I will send when you request the repair instructions. Regretfully, I did not take photos during my repair procedure, but these will help guide you as they did me.
