Default Whining DLP in Standby

I have a new HL-S6187W that makes a very high pitched whining noise when in standby...is that what you're experiencing. It takes about a minute after i shut it off for the fan to stop and then the whining begins. I had a tech come out, who said he couldn't hear it, but suggested...get this...I wait until the warranty is almost over to see if Samsung has developed a fix based on other similar complaints. Forget that, I called Samsung and asked for another tech to either fix it, or replace it. As an aside, this tech said he had another customer complain of the exact same thing, and he couldn't hear that tv whine either, and said a Samsung "honcho" told him he's the only tech in the ENTIRE COUNTRY to have any customers who have complained about this...gimmie a break!

I have the same 61" Samsung and don't hear any whining in mine. Maybe a difference is I have a power filter? The TV is plugged into an always on spot on the conditioner though. I hear a brief whine as the tv powers on but that's it and I can usually hear very well.

I have the Panamax 5300 EX Power Conditioner. Please note that this is speculation on my part as to a potential cause, I just thought of it as a potential difference in our systems.

I'm 41, my wife is 37, and i don't know how old the customer service rep from Samsung was but we can all hear it. To top things off the CS rep was listening over the phone. Brian, can you hear a whine without the conditioner? I'll bet not. The conditioner sounds like a good idea, and may reduce some electric speckleing (only guessing this) but shouldn't be required to produce a "whine-free" experience. I do use a surge protector and have plugged the set into various outlets in my house to check different circuits...still no luck.

If I think of it when I'm at home I'll try plugging mine in without the conditioner and see.

ok thanks a lot.. but if ur gonna try it without the conditioner, you might have to wait an hour, cause after shutting my tv off, it doesnt start to humm or w/e untill about an hour after its off.. it also depends on how good the power source is on the outlet.. i think mine has dirty power

Mine only takes about 1 min to start whining...just as soon as the fan stops.

My DLP is quiet when it's on, it's once I shut it down, or more appropriately in standby, the whining begins.

Here's another question...do you have the DN VIP622 receiver? I was just listening to see if I heard whining and did but discovered it wasn't coming from the TV but from the DVR. The DVR disc drive seems to spin a lot even when not recording and powered down.
