Default Looking for advice

I am contemplating getting either a Toshiba 44HM85 or an Hitachi 50V720. When I was in the store the Toshiba had the hands down better picture and was $500 less.

The Hitachi was very blown out and the colour seemed off no matter how much I played with the settings. Also I could notice some "grainyness" (not sure how to describe it) on this tv.

I am wondering if anyone has the hitachi and how happy they are with it. Or should I not even consider it. Money is a bit of an issue and I really want the best picture, yet I would like the larger size. although it is only 6". Note, I do have an hd cable box.

Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Are you in Canada. I have seen claims that this particular Tosh is really an LG re-badge sold in Canada. This is just for info only.so you'll know what you're getting. Make what you will of it. Found some of it: 2005-09-19, 12:10 PM #1

Is this another rebadged LG? I am confused as I have just now seen some information on this, and I cannot find much information in Canada about the 46hmx85.

Greetings

From the user manual and the images, it looks like the LG rebadge ... the unit including the remote and the PC access are the same as the 44" with the 84 designation ... this is LG all right.

Regards

I bought this tv last weekend and I can confirm that inside the box that there were two cardboard items that were labelled with LG Electronics. My brother-in-law laughed and said that confirmed the rumours.

So my question now is, am I getting ripped off? I thought I was buying a Toshiba.

Another question that I have is I'm trying to get the settings/color right and I'm having problems. I definitely don't like the picture now but I suspect it's because I don't have the right settings. We haven't played very much with it and are a bit hesitant until we know we're doing.

Yeah, Im in Canada.

Is being a re branded LG a bad thing? As far as I know LG is usually pretty good quality (but then again I don't really know too much :P)

I know that paticular set had a great picture in the store. But if people are having problems with it I will steer clear of it.

As I said, I'm not trying to talk you out of anything. I asked if you were in Canada because if you lived in Florida, you might feel bad buying a re-badge Canadian unit, regardless of how good it is. Here is a real positive post on it as well.
I changed the website to one where you can find out something, his website came up a no-show,bad address.Good luck........ --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I can't tell in the store... they both look great with HD and crappy with SD.

Personally, I would go with Toshiba or Samsung. Which is to say I wouldnt buy the 44hm Toshiba because the only thing toshiba on it is the logo, the rest is LG.

Go with the 46HMX85 if you want that size as it uses the HD4 chip and Talen engine. The pic quality is great on the HMX85 series. Here is the link to Toshiba website where you will see they classify the 44hm85 by itself so it is not confused with the real Toshiba product. http://www.toshiba.ca/web/product.gr...4993&category=
