Some of the points that have been posted are correct.
You should down load the installation manual for the TV that you are interested in and see if your warranty will be voided if installed above a fireplace.
The fact that your fireplace has a fan does not make a big difference. What is more important is the BTU’s of your fireplace also the categories of fireplace. There are 3 ratings – decorative (usually 18,000 BTU’s or lower with tempered glass) – heater and furnace rated (ceramic glass – 20,000 BTU’s plus)
If I was you, I would suggest ether a builders or decorative unit (fireplace) especially if this is not the main heat source in this room but more for emotions.
You were saying that you are building a recess above the fireplace to house the new TV. This is very smart idea as you do not want your TV to project out from the wall and come in contact with the heat rising from the fireplace below.
The other thing that will make a large input on the life of your TV is if you install a mantel shelve to deflect the heat of the fireplace which can be designed to complement your fireplace.
The other thing to think about as been said earlier is the distance of viewing the TV. This can affect your neck.
Did you think about how the flicker flames of the fire below and how it will affect the viewing of the TV above?
