Default 19" TV stand too low?

I bought a TV stand for my new apartment and it turned out to be a lot lower than I thought it would. It's only about 19" high. For those with experience with HDTV's, is the viewing experience better when the TV is mounted higher on the wall? I'll see how my TV looks on the stand (I'll be about 7-8 feet away) but I may have to mount it if it's too low.

It is best to have the center of your TV at eye level when seated.

I guess I will see once I get the TV set up. I just feel like it's going to be too low but we'll see.

Agreed . . . I recently remounted my TV (actually upgraded to 42" from 32" in the process of remodeling and cabinet installation).
The old set was mounted a bit high with the center line of the screen at about 55"; I always felt that it was as bit high.
The new set is center lined at 44" and the difference is comfortably noticeable.
It seems that 30 - 50" center line is about right for most folks (with 36" being about eye level for most seating situations, perhaps that should be the design goal).

This is something I'm debating myself right now. Just bought a new 50" Panasonic Plasma but need to buy a piece of furniture to put it on. I say eye level from the couch would be ideal...my wife on the other hand found a piece she likes but it's 36" high plus the 2-3" height of the tv stand will definitely be above eye level. This is the kind of thing you have to try out and live with a while so I'm a bit leary on her choice. In th meantime my new tv sits unopened in the box...killin' me.

We put our 58V10 on a 19 inch stand and it's perfect for viewing from the couch or easy chair. Nearly dead-on straight.

I just setup my TV on the 19" stand last night and it is PERFECT from where I'm sitting (on a couch about 6-7 feet away).

I recently mounted my plasma TV with a height of 50" and it looks fine with my couch that are bit lower than usual.
