Anybody mod a DB8E to good effect?

I was reading the page on Antennahacks concerning the DB8.

I was considering getting rid of the printed baluns, stock RG6 and combiner and installing a Nist harness.

Thank you.

Sev you need too stop trolling every where.and by the way I am looking for something better then the 91xg.or do you have any suggestions or should I just dubble

Put a 48"x48" small hole reflector screen on the back. Change the wire to #12 solid copper. Change the bow ties to sheet aluminum. Test balums to make sure they both work and both work the same. Make sure you have good connections. Test each 1/2 of the antenna separate with your TV field strength meter. Make sure each 4 bay side is in phase with each other. Use 1 straight new coax from antenna to TV. Antenna will be 3 times better than before. How do I upload a photo here???? Only thing I know is upload to Facebook then copy and paste here.

Ok Gary350 know what about my question about the 91xg,??

Are you talking about the DB8 or the newer "e" version? Nist last updated his website almost ten years ago, long before the DB8e was introduced.

The original DB8, designed about 15 years ago, should be considered obsolete for any new purchase since it, like many other still sold antennas, was designed for the UHF frequency band in use back then. It will still work as always, but there are better choices that were re-scaled after the 2009 transition.

If you're referring to the DB8e, what are you trying to improve? It's already very well optimized for something out of the box and there probably isn't a whole lot that can be done to improve it.

Asking about the DB8E and referenced the DB8.

There is always room for improvement. It has been stated many times that all antenna's are a compromise by the manufactures.
Some body is always tinkering.

Now that the bandwidth is narrowing with the repackaging by the FCC. Perhaps it can be optimized for a narrowed standard.

The db8 is a hi price lol. know what about the 91xg that you don't have too do a mod too it to make it work better ??and by the way I thought that hack
Tock was forbidden!!!! Any way the 91xg is a better antenna!!why don't you
Try and put AN AGL of 45too a 90DG.AGL and you will see a big improvement.

A question is generally ended with a question mark.

It is a line of womens shoes sold at Nortstrom.
What size do you wear?

Or perhaps you may want to consider educating yourself in the use of proper grammatical form and as well as taking the time to correct your spelling errors as a courtesy to the rest of the forum.

Hdb91xg 05-12-2018 11:54 AM

Perhaps you can adjust

Do you have anything constructive to add to the thread concerning the original question?

Yeah, I certainly agree with you regarding the need for compromise. I haven't run across any discussions of mods for the "e" version of the DB8e. If you see something regarding that idea, it would be neat to share.

My best guess is that, perhaps, one might squeeze up to an extra dB or so of forward gain out of a re-scale. Probably not worth the effort for a manufacturer.
