TV to AVR via HDMI
PS3 to AVR via HDMI (for video)
PS3 to AVR via optical cable (for audio)

The TV is going into the HDMI output on the AVR. The PS3 is going into the HDMI input labeled DVT/CBL. The PS3 is obviously going into the only optical input on the AVR. I went into PS3 sound settings and set the audio output to Optical instead of HDMI, since this receiver does not send audio via HDMI. I have the AVR set to the DVT/CBL input on the front. I tried hooking my speakers up to the A and B terminals. I still have no sound. I can't think of anything I am missing. What am I missing?

Seems right. Might just be a bad unit.

Look in the manual and see if there is another setting on the AVR to enable optical,
Make sure all your connections are snug and make sure your optical cable isn't defective if you can.

Sounds silly but if the optical cable is new make sure the plastic cap on the ends is off. It does happen .

Yeah the cable is good, i tested it. I have been wondering if it is a PS3 setting. I changed the audio output to optical, but there are a bunch of different settings (DTS, Dolby Digital, and a few different Linear PCM settings with different values. It looks like 2 of them are factory defaulted. Anyway, do I have to choose one of these?

And I checked the manual and there is nothing about enabling optical
