Default Need help with my Sound System

so i bought a HTIB which is a Samsung HT-D6500W 5.1 Setup. but here is a problem, it only has 2 HDMI ports and i have 4 devices that need to be plugged in (Direct tv,xbox360,PS3,Wii-u) i tried 2 different ways to do this.

My TV is a Sharp LC-40LE810UN which has tons of HDMI ports and also has ARC so i plugged my HTIB into the ARC HDMI port and plugged the rest of my stuff into my TV but for some reason None of the Devices will get 5.1 sound only PCM for some strange reason. I also tried plugging a Optical Cable from the HTIB to the TV and thought i could get 5.1 sound from the rest of the devices and still only PCM.

So i am kinda at a lost how do i get 5.1 from ALL 4 of my devices since i only have 2 HDMI ports on the HTIB. Because i would rather have everything Plugged into my TV if i could as i can Label all the HDMI ports on the TV

As you have learned, the audio outputs of the TV are limited to stereo from HDMI connected external devices. Most TVs only output DD 5.1 from their own internal tuners or Smart TV apps. So, you have two choices.

1. Get an HDMI switch so that three or more devices can share one input on the HTIB. I have a five way HDMI switch from monoprice.com that works just fine, although some switches may have HDMI handshake issues.

2. Connect two devices to the TV with HDMI for video and to the AVR with optical or digital coax for audio. The direct connections to the HTIB will provide 5.1 audio.

With either approach, a good remote like a Harmony will help with input switching.

BIslander is spot on. Also PCM is a method of transmission (Pulse code modulated) and has nothing to do with stereo or surround. PCM can be 2,3,5.1,7.1,9.2 etc channels. It is how the signal is being sent , not what is being sent.

you got advice from our resident "experts" no one can tell you any more. harmony has a remote for less than $50.00 you plug in the computer, bring up your device on the harmony site and it progams it with all the codes.
