Default Help out the spaceman.

The title says it all.
Here is the deal, lately I have been working on my audio video experience but I have run into a bit of a snag...
You see I have a PS3 which I use for about everything and it is connected to my TV with a HDMI cable and through optical to a harmon/kardon AVR 130 receiver.
(I know, not the best receiver but pretty fucking good for my age. )
I have all six speaker channels hooked up on the receiver and the PS3's audio only going through the optical output but For some reason audio will not come out through the SL and SR speakers.
Games, or Blue-Ray movies. I haven't tried any DVD's but they probably will do the same.
I have tried most of the different settings I know to try. (DD, DTS: NEO, PLII, etc)
Still no sound out of the surround speakers.
I would love some help this and if you guys are up for it I have another problem but it is one big disaster.
Thanks in advance.

Just for some added info, I am playing games that support dolby digital and the stereo recognises what format it is in and switches accordingly, like on the XMB it will be in Logic 7 5CH and when I start a game it will switch to Dolby Digital.
I don't think it is anything to do with the stereo because audio does come out of the center speaker and Subwoofer.
I may just try and use the old cables because I remeber having surround working on the RCA cable with my old stereo.

You need to change rthe audio settings in the ps3 from pcm to bitstream that will get you 5.1 surround. If you run red and white rca cables you will only get stereo - you may be able to use you HK AVR to artificially simulate surround but it will still only be 2 channel and not 5.1 Setting the ps3 sound to bitstream should fix everything

Sorry for the super late reply.
I have an optical cable hooked up and have tried all the settings for bitstream ( mix, direct, and PCM) sadly none have worked in solving the problem.
It may be a setting on the receiver but I don't know.
Center channel works perfect just no sound from the surround speakers.
Thanks for the help and sorry for the late reply just been very busy lately.

What happens when you play the test tones on the receiver? Do you get audio from the surrounds?

Both surround speakers are getting no sound during the test tone.
I hope this doesn't mean the channels are blown.
