I'm looking into purchasing either a Yamaha RX-V573 or a Pioneer VSX-822-K and before I made the purchase I just wanted to make sure of a few things and possibly determine which is the better choice.
First, if I have the HDMI Output to in use on either receiver connected to a Samsung HDTV with speakers, could I still have audio output through composite? (I'm using fairly old speakers, I don't want to upgrade if I don't have to). The speakers in question are old JVC MX-C770 and speaking of them, would it just be easier to take out the wires that connect the speakers to the stereo system and plug them directly into the receiver? (The speakers have 4 cables for each speaker [Red, grey, blue, black], the receivers have 4 inputs for each speaker [2 reds and 2 blacks for each side])
Second, there's no upconversion on either of them, right? So let's say I hook up an N64 to either receiver, that signal won't go through the HDMI, right? Will it go through component cables, or am I stuck using composite?
Finally, which of the two receivers do you recommend, the Yamaha RX-V573 or the Pioneer VSX-822-K? I'd only ever need 3-4 HDMI ports and since I'm using older speakers, 5.1 vs 7.1 don't really apply to me. However, if you feel like I am butchering those receivers, I may invest in new speakers. Just for you
If you can answer any or all three of these questions, I will be forever in your debt. If you need pictures, let me know and I can get you some (Like of the speaker wires).
