First off , thanks to all for the info in this thread,I hope I can now resolve my hdmi problem too. I need to buy a few other things from PE so I looked to see if they had caps that would work and think they may work but would like some feedback before buying them.

Man do I consider myself lucky - I have only ever bought 2 extended warranties in my life - my xbox360 since I waited after launch and saw all the probs and mine has been replaced 4 times under warranty and my tx-sr606 after I saw how hot they run I figured probs were bound to happen so I bought a 5yr warranty and mine is in the shop now for the second time (1st was right after I bought it) getting the dsp board replaced due to caps.

Hi everyone new to the forum, have been reading with great interest all the successfull repairs going on here! this is what it's all about!!, I have a Tx-Sr 875 with similar issues, I know it's a completely different board/animal as such but wondered if the issues with my hdmi output could be eminating from the same problems with these 100uF 4v capacitors near these voltage regulators, I have five regulators on my PCB (NCHDM 9114, with the HQV Reon processor) Q8595,Q8596,Q8597,Q8806,Q8902,these all have one of these 100uF caps connected to them in fact one near Q8806 Capacitor C8843 had come away from it's contact pad on the + side! I have resoldered it but it made no difference at all,

My unit appears to recognise any of the four inputs, as the front display changes from NO SIGNAL to for example HDMI THROUGH (or whatever is set for that input) as soon as an input cable in plugged into whatever input but I get No image at all from the hdmi out if I go into setup I can just get a very grainy image this is just snowy at the bottom and flickering between grains and the actual OSD wording at the top, I have tried component out and can get the OSD perfectly so it would seem the unit is seing all the inputs but not able to output them at all via hdmi, I think this could have something to do with these regulators or capacitors???? Does any one have any ideas??? I really like this receiver and the way it sounds and would love to have my hdmi switching/scaling back would appreciate any advice given to this newbie!!!

Default E2PROM ERROR still lingers after HDMI fix - Any idea?

I've read a lot of threads on the HDMI board issues and fixes, but not much on the E2PROM error. My reciever had both issues, including the VD = ??????. I replaced all 10 of the 100uf caps and I believe the HDMI switching problem has been resolved, but the E2PROM error still lingers at startup. Here's what's interesting:

Before caps: HDMI handshake issue, E2PROM error, VD=????? (which also includes losing all setting once unplugged for any period of time)

After caps: HDMI working, E2PROM error still, VD= 1.19/084198 (once settting are stored, can unplug and not lose settings unless....

When unit gets hot, if unplugged, will reset everything and store settings fails. If I let it cool down, can store settings again and will be fine.

The issues this amp has given people are incredible. Any ideas on fixing the E2PROM error? I have found no way to update firmware or restore the PROM. I may be stuck with the issue, but would like to know if anyone has come across a fix.

Thanks.

Hi,

New guy here. TIA for any replies.

Does anyone know if this fix will work for the Onkyo HT-R680 that comes with the Onkyo HT-S6300 ensemble? Seems like a lot of people have the same problems described here and so do I.

"Direct Mode" is for 2channel (stereo) music with no processing at all, no eq, no all channel no anything just pure unadulterated non-processed sound only thing used is the DAC (digital to analog converter) if it is a digital in signal and amplification. IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE THAT WAY. It is the most pure 'audiophile setting' to invoke minimal processing/changing of the signal. On upper level models it is known as "Pure Audio" instead of direct.

when in doubt RTFM

thanks jkkyler for your response.

What I meant was that when I put the receiver to an other mode (all channel, 5.1 surround , DTS etc) there is no audio. There is only sound when I set it to DIRECT mode. I know that that means that there is no processing.

It is not supposed to be like that because it was working before, it just stopped.

Believe me I RTFM.

Someone said that maybe the DSP IC needs to be replaced.

Anyone? Thanks
