They have distinctly different patters which any knowledgeable person will recognize.
Well 1000 megahertz or higher digital signals sure as hell don't look like square waves (as you falsely claimed). To my eyes, they look like jaggy (dirty/noisy) sine waves with 0 to +2.5 volt range for most devices. And -1.0 to +3.5 volt overshoot worst case

Quite frankly, I am well qualified.
I don't believe you. Especially since you didn't list any degrees or job qualifications. If you listed qualifications, fine and dandy, but since you don't, I'm inclined to believe you have none.

You're probably like another fellow I once knew (back in the days of 2400 baud and BBSes). He could wax very eloquently about technologies and seemed to know a lot about computers. I grew to admire the man. Then one day my friend says to me, while we were doing our Calc 3 homework, "I don't know why you listen to him."

"What do you mean?" said I.

"Well he's nothing but a high school janitor."

I was surprised, but that taught me a valuable lesson about distrusting what you read online. As I grew more knowledgeable in my college courses and working experiences, I discovered bit-by-bit..... that high school janitor was wrong about virtually everything he "revealed" to his BBS audience. Yeah sure he knew all the technobabble and could SOUND intelligent, but most of it was wrong. At the end of the day, he was just a high school grad who spent his days sweeping floors.

Misquote as usual.

Speaking of distortion . . . . what could possibly be false about claiming that a digital signal looks like a square wave?

How can you possibly say that a digital signal does NOT look like a square wave - take a look at the scan that you posted in your post # 35 - now, that, by golly, sure looks like a square wave. Is it perfect? No. Does it have some amount of measurable corruption? Yes. But it still looks like a square wave; and that is what I have always said.

Once again, it looks a helluva lot more like a "normal" digital signal than it does like a "dirty sine wave" (whatever that might be).

I too am a high school grad and have gone on to better myself (with a little luck of course). High School grads can (with the right tools and mentors) go on to learn professions that are normally left up to folks with degrees. I've been lucky enough to work for a very aggressive, forward thinking company that advances employees based on ability, not degree. While this may seem old fashioned, I promise you that there are a lot of high school grads like myself who can compete very nicely and even present some nice ideas to the population. I have made a nice living for myself and can even say that developing improved genetics in the small grains has fed a few more people. I carry a lot of pride that "just being a high school grad" has rewarded my family and my company so well.

Oh well, back to the forum. I didn't get where I'm at in life by worrying about the occasional slams directed to us non educated dopes.

Default It sounds

Gosmosis,

no shame in being a working man. Many people go to technical school rather than college. With the tuition now a days it makes a lot of sense.

I congratulate you on your success!!!

Ed

ps: I have a brother in law that drove heavy truck for about 10 years or so. At age 63 he is getting his nurses degree
and specializes in treating breathing disorders in children. He is getting straight A's. There is no substitute for conviction.

Yea, ain't that the truth, my brother-in-law is due for release in a couple more years.
His attitude has really changed.

Just to give my 2 cents, from a non-electrical engineering standpoint....
....that just looks like a bunch of colored squigly lines to me.

It's all about perspective boys, can't we all just get along!!

In other words, you're not a janitor.

The guy I met online back in the 80s was a janitor... he had no other skills but he liked to "talk the shit" about how he designed secret satellites for the government, and how he helped write the first version of BASIC, and on and on.

He *sounded* knowledgeable but at the end of the day it was just BS. He was still just sweeping floors & emptying trash.

You clearly have exceeded that role.
You are not a janitor.
