Default Xbox 360 - Dead?

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19640784/

With the problems that MicroSoft has had concerning the XBOX 360 with bad or dead machines, one can only gather that this is really bad news for the HD DVD world. Me carries no numbers, but how many XBOX 360 add on HD DVD players will continue to work when (not if) their XBOX dies?

Don't get your hopes up, if the 360 went under, it means good news for Nintendo. Sony is still in a very deep hole. In the gaming business, momentum is a HUGE predictor of console success. The PS3 has no momentum outside its hardcore base, which has already bought one.

As for the HD-DVD/BD wars, the 360 is less important than standalone players are. It doesn't have nearly the importance to the format that the PS3 has to BD.

The 360 HD DVD add-on (complete with lossy audio) makes up half of the HD DVD players out there. 360's dying left and right is bad news for M$, Toshiba, HD DVD, and VC-1.

There's no way to spin this. Mentioning Nintendo makes you look like an even bigger Nintendork, Nintendo has absolutely nothing to do with this thread. The Wii isn't even capable of 540p let alone 720p/1080i/1080p, so why keep bringing it up?

Because we're talking about game systems. I was making the point that if the 360 went under it really only helped Nintendo out, and the PS3 wouldn't be helped out that much by it.

Me intent in the original post has nothing to do with the gaming world and everything to do with dead 360s and it's still alive barnacle (add on HD DVD player). Makes one wonder how many dead Xbox owners will be dumping the HD DVD add on - look out Ebay.

It's more like ten million 360s, but if you ask me it doesn't have tons of steam left in it.

the 360 isn't going anywhere anytime soon and neither is HD-DVD....sorry, guys it's just the truth HD-DVD may not "win" the phony war, but it's not gonna be over soon or by the end of the year like some of BD fans would like you to think. The only way I see HD-DVD being done is if Warner/Paramount/Universal go BD exclusive. Until then.......man your battle stations.

Personally, if my 360 died out of warranty, I would buy another one before I bought a PS3 or a Wii. I don't hate Sony or Nintendo, but Xbox live is MUCH better than sony's online service and the Wii is too gimmicky for me. It would be like a one month fad for me that got old quick. This is all JMHO, yours may differ.

LOL...2 days before the official news broke, I was on the phone with the ring of death....it seems this is a VERY serious issue. Microsoft didn't even attempt to trouble shoot! They knew what is was.

Well, personally I do love my XBOX360...but I'm already on my, well let me count...at least 4th or 5th one already...but I for the most part only use it for gaming. As for movies, well I'm looking towards Blu-ray as the winner in this battle. I'm in no real hurry, just waiting for more movies...

Well thats all i know is that I work in a retail store and at my store we had 3 xbox360's and they are all gone (in the past week), while the ps3's are still sitting there. I looked today and it did look like someone dusted them off so I guess thats a good thing.

Looks like MS bit the bullet on this one and gave a 3 year warranty for the Ring of Death error so this won't be quite as big of an issue for the consumer as it will be for MS, who will be losing over a billion dollars to do the right thing. Hmm.. makes me wish Sony had done the right thing with the original Playstation (I owned about 4 of them due to the overheating issue). Turning that PS upside down to get it to play only lasted so long. This was widespread and Sony has yet to take any blame that I know of.
Anyway, I think people are safe with their add on HD-DVD players..

Default Your Lame

I will give you some slack because it looks like you posted before MS declared they will fix/replace all Xbox 360s if they are broken. But to label your thread Xbox 360 Dead? Cheap. Xbox 360s lead has insured it that it is not dying anytime soon.

XBOX360 is so dead we keep selling out of them at my work (Target) and yet the PS3's still sit there. We are selling more of the 60 gig with the price drop but if you think about it.. 500 bucks for a game system. Ouch, and when they are gone its back up to $600.00

According to a business focused article I read, because of a rather large number of units needing repair (some guy earlier in the thread went through 5 units???), they are taking a major, major $$ hit. They have lost over a billion dollars.

For just about anyone else, that would mean they'd take it off the market immediately. m$ has such a HUGE money chest, they can easily lose a billion a YEAR for 4-5 years without really breaking a financial sweat.

It looks to me like Sony needs some very hot A+ list games and soon. The PS2 became a big deal because it always had the best games... has the PS3 had ANY huge selling games yet? I think not. Fans say that some "in the pipeline games" will kick start sales of the hardware... we'll see in the next 6-9 months!
