Just played GoW on someone's Xbox 360 via a 100" front projector image...WOW. That was an incredible game experience.

I don't know about that. Back in the 1988-94 timeframe, the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive was the #1 console until they stumbled & made stupid decisions. The super nintendo then caught-up and passed-by Sega.

It's still possible for Xbox360 to experience a stumble and for either Wii or PS3 to surpass it.

when were the players made....that is what it comes down to.
Gaming is always about what is new and hot. I think all game systems Peak right away then tread off. How fast it drops is a good indicator of how well they are doing. Besides it would be dumb to think that Microsoft is not already planning the next big thing....I mean the Elite was just to Perk interest in there system. Like when the PS1 got smaller. And I am sure Playstation is working on #4.

and as far as being dead.....Slow and old news maybe, but not dead...the PS2 and Xbox and Game Cube are Dead..thats why you can pick them up used for $70 and get games by the dozens for $5 each. True Death comes when they stop making new games for a system. And I am sure there are plenty of games coming out for the big 3 in the next couple years.

By that reasoning the Atari 2600 and Original Nintendo (NES) are still "alive", because games are still being produced & sold for them.

I prefer a different definition:

- When the console hardware stops being made, then it has been retired. So that would mean (for example) that Atari survived from 1977 to 1992, Nintendo 64 lasted from 1996 to 2002, and Playstation 1 lasted from 1995 to 2005.

I suspect the PS2 will follow a path similar to PS1, where it coexists as a budget $50 console for many years to come, and retires sometime around 2011.
