Sounds like the Sony we know and love is getting itself a clue. Now letís see if the HD DVD disk peddlers will follow suit.
The author, whoever it is, missed the big point that it is not the peddlers that want the flag, it is the content providers. Sony may be able to dictate their studios will not require the flag, but they may not have control over other studios and they need to buy into the flagless systems for this to be universally accepted.

Post Not that any legacy HD devices will do 1080p

Sony's Blu-Ray: press statement.

As a concession to content providers, the full HD output will only be available via an HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface) connector that supports copy protection. Owners of TV sets without an HDMI connector will be able to watch up to a 1080-line interlaced signal, which is the second highest rank of high-definition picture.

I would say its not yet time to un-cork that champagne bottle just yet if your a non hdcp hdmi display owner, but with all the insider talk at other forums about Disney, Fox, Sony, MGM and Paramount also hinting at no ICT flags for the time being, it might be time to put that champagne on ice
