Post 2017 TV Shootout Evaluation event will be in NYC, July 12 and July 13, 2017

We're holding our 2017 TV Shootout TM evaluation event in conjunction with CE Week NY on 7/12 - 13, 2017.

Joel Silver of ISF and Kevin Miller of ISF TV will be running the event this year along with Matt and Jeff Murray of AV Pro Store.

Joel and Kevin made a significant change to the event this year. They are inviting a top professional team of judges as the panel of experts to vote on the attributes of picture quality to determine "Who makes the world's best TV?" So the evaluation event will be judged by professional colorists, contrast graders, and video engineers.

Another change this year is my personal VIP invite list gets full access to the CE Week show floor, the private press room, special access to all private press events before the show opens to the public, the TV Shootout event and all of CE Week's full calendar of special events all at no charge. Value Electronics invited guests will be pre-registered and issued an all access badge.

Members of Blu-ray.com can email me at [email protected] to be included in our exclusive VIP advance registration.

Will they be using factory picture settings or all be manually adjusted to each one's likeness?

It would be nice to see published manual settings that were used, if the case in each class. Then posted on this thread, for example.

They will be evaluating the displays as they come out of the box in the best mode and then in the professionally calibrated mode.

They will not be set-up to each person's personal liking.

individual preference set-ups, that's ridiculous. Out of box settings and then Pro-calibrated is quite ample. Thanks, Robert.

I would probably guess that only 10% would have professionally calibrated in their homes.

I am one that would be more interested in out of the box with FACTORY picture option settings.....for 80% of the consumers probably fall into that category?

Calibrations, I would probably check with Cnet and others.

I wish I could appreciate these tests, but I am colored blind by a huge margin, let a lone being able to afford these high end machines.

The settings on our TV's are per Cnet reviews, at the time, for best picture, if available. Otherwise, one of the factory presets are used.

I guess it is good to know what the highest end picture quality TV on the market is, rated by some professionals. Cheers!

Will my 50" Smart TV have just as good a picture as an OLED or any 4K,
when watching an HBO movie via cable?

What is the purpose of having an OLED or 4K, with limited content available and general public paying extra for that content streaming.
OLED and 4K just another sales pitch, like 3D was? I don't know?

I guess one can claim they have the Best TV in the world with very limited REAL use?

We had Vizio's next gen P series, I think it's the P65-E1.

The advantages of owning a 2017 premium UHD TV is not for the ability to display 4K resolution. It's the HDR, WCG, 10-Bit panel vs. 8-bit and getting away from Gamma and moving to the new EOTF. Content comes from Netflix, Amazon Video, Vudu, Youtube and UHD Blu-ray discs. You can also get UHD content from DIRECTV and soon to come on Verizon FIOS cable service.
