Re: L2W memorial thread.

this obituary was written by linda, love's dear friend.

Michael William Gregory (Nakaya Tekakwitha) was born in Washington, DC on February 28, 1950. His adoptive parents William Mathers and Gertrude Wesley Gregory raised him in Wheaton, Maryland. After a courageous battle with cancer Michael 61 years young peacefully passed at home surrounded by his son Ian, loving friends and devoted caretakers on Saturday November 12, 2011.

Michael’s son, Ian Gregory of Las Cruces, New Mexico and his sister, Suzanne Farmer of Philadelphia survives him. Michael’s parents and his former wife, Holly Gregory preceded him in death.

As were his wishes Michael will be cremated by the caring staff of La Paz Graham’s Funeral Home of Las Cruces. His remains will be taken and scattered into the Atlantic Ocean “where I came from”.

As anyone who ever crossed paths with Michael knew in his younger years his love for speed included fast cars, motorcycles and powerful boats. Later in life he developed a passion for technology and spent endless hours not only setting up his own audio, video and computer systems but also assisting others, some he never met in person, with their own systems and equipment.

Numerous people were empowered through Michael’s talents and skills to move into the age of technology and find pleasure in their own lives through these avenues.

Michael will be sorely missed for his great sense of humor, his many talents and his kindness to others.

There will be an informal Celebration of Life for Michael on Monday November 21, 2011 at 1130 Gardner in Las Cruces, New Mexico. In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated and can be sent to Ian Gregory or Linda Kinstle at 1130 Gardner Avenue, Las Cruces, New Mexico 88001.

From a posting by wooty at HDJ

linda, love's dear friend, has sent me pictures of him. and i thank her -- very, very much.

he is beautiful. so very beautiful. with glorious high cheekbones from his mohawk birthfather and silken soft fair skin from his scots birthmother.

linda tells me he had a long ponytail when she first met him (that so fits :-) but his hair is short and silvery in most of the pictures sent. except for the ones where it's lost to the ravages of radiation.

his mien is ever distinguished and serene: like the man. and in many of the pictures he is enjoying the company of dogs. i take that as a sign

but i won't post the pictures. my compass and friend junkie and i talked about it. he's right. and he reflects my first instinct. love was a private man who shared himself generously with us here at hdj. it would be wrong to presume upon his privacy now by taking more than he may have been willing to give.

he is what he was to us. and always will be. that he is "beautiful" too, is irrelevant.

there is one picture i don't think he'd mind sharing. one he took himself, one that reflects his skill in areas beyond high def and high speed. so this, in the corner pocket, for love.

This is truly very bad news. He helped me many times always in a kind and supportive manner. To me a huge presence in this forum. My heart goes out to all. I'll miss him.

Thanks for sharing Rizzo.

I'm glad to know a little about the man here we call L2W. I think most here have their own clear image of who he actually is anyway so no need for pictures.

Agreed, we all have that 'mental' image of him, that we conjured up in our minds. I was totally taken back that he was of native American heritage.
So many things we all don't know of each other. But without a doubt a significant loss to this forum as well as PFC5, 2 Anchor's of this place and both were Gentlemen.

Gone so Early.

I just saw this thread for the very first time. Its very sad, L2W was a great guy and it was a pleasure to meet him. He always had time for everybody and was one of the nicest people you could meet. It is a true loss and my thoughts go out to his family. RIP L2W, you will be missed my friend.
