PAL is not 25Hz it is 50Hz. It is 25 frames per second but just like NTSC each frame contains 2 fields making it 50i.

By the way the orig. reason that video runs at the rate it does is because of electricity. Like in America and other NTSC countries the power is 60Hz and in countries that use PAL or SECAM the power is 50HZ.

And just for grins NTSC is not 30 frames per second it is 29.97 frames per second.

It's kind of hard to follow along sometimes because the incorrect numbers are used like 30 or 29.97, 24 or 23.98. They are all real formats.

You are correct. Instead of Hz, I meant fps. Thanks for finding that.

I use "30" as shorthand. Also, "1080i29.97" becomes a bit lengthy. You'll find most engineers use that shorthand.

From C.R. Caillouet: "When i refer to frame rates of 24, 30 or 60, i am simplifying the terminology from actual frame rates of 23.976, 29.97 and 59.94. If i want to talk about integer frame rates other than 25 or 50, i will use 24.00, 30.00 or 60.00."

I bet that extra frame every 1000.00000011 frames (33.333333333333334 seconds) really gives it the old WOW factor -wish I coulda been there make sure your AC isn't off by more than .02 cycle (synchronous capstan drives etc) or you'll be back to worse than that crappy old 29.97 or god forbid 'keystone cop' 30.03fps video

It would be nice if people would use the correct terms. It would make it a lot easier to follow along. But the problem is that most people don't have a clue of the truth they just talk out of a paper hat.maicaw

I asked how many, not when you saw one last.

What was it for? Not for television, I hope!

No, I have never had the need to shoot at 30.00.

If I was labeling a tape, I would be exact. In a discussion about American television, most understand we are talking about color time.

Since you want to be exact, did you mean HDCAM?

It was the demo tape that all of the video stores (bb cc) are going to use for their demo tape to show how great 1080p/30 is. The job was for TI. And to answer your question about how many? Just a hand full. That is why it is important to get info correct.

Yes you correct about the HDCAM sorry. and thanks

Fox was considering going 480p30 and even did a demo at the NAB several years ago. It didn't look very good. It had too much motion judder. I would think there is little advantage to go with 1080p30. My set deinterlaces 1080i30 very well to 1080p60. All these frame rates are color time.
