And cnet still regards the iMac as one of the best all-in ones available and that has been true for many reviews.

If it was all based on cost alone then eMachines would be one of the top computer systems out there.

Following your logic they would turn and then blow apart in about 5 minutes. Correct me if I'm wrong I don't think they do.

I never said that more like 9 months to a year and a half, but they're cheap enough you can then just buy another one after it dies.

I was making a point via sarcasm. My other point there was that you seemed to have contradicted yourself by saying that because what I've gathered is that you find some direct relationship between increase in price and reliability. So therefore saying something like based on price would make eMachines the best computers out there seems contradictory. I'm not saying such a relationship is completely untrue either, in fact, for electronics it's often very true. But considering that Apple is fourth in reliability for laptops brings up legitimate reason to question a relationship such as that in this instance.

I wouldn't look forward to such a merger. Sony has fine products, although I don't relish using some of them. I use pro video cameras. My most troublesome has been the Sonys. Absolutely terrible layouts and horrific menus... but the video I must add is very good. Pany and JVC have been my most reliable overall. Canon doesn't build a real pro camera as far as I'm concerned but their video lenses are killers. I hope they stay separate and improve through tough competition. Tom

Apple has a become a very profitable technology company, they make big news but I don't think they would have the captial to pull off this deal. Sony is WAY bigger in almost every way since it has turned itself into a mutinational multimedia conglomorate. Apple would either need to secure a huge amount of extra capital, or Sony would have to completely implode financially.

Although this is me flying by the seat of my pants so I could be 100% inaccurate but that is my first impression is that the deal wouldn't be good or bad, just very implausible and financially too risky for Apple to take.

I don't have any special "Mac" version of any hardware, and that hasn't been an issue since Jobs came back and Apple rolled out those blue and white G3's and iMacs.

Silly comments like that just sound like fanboy arguments from 1995.

I'd also like to remind the naysayers that part of the extra cost in owning a Mac comes from the R&D Apple invests in for its own OS. Dell, HP, and the like aren't doing that. If Dell were to decide one day to get off the MS teat and develop their own OS, you can be sure their prices would go up.
damn,,must be a slow night. responding to a post from last year. Number one,,,please explain the R&D that add's to the cost of of a Mac OS that makes it worth the money? Number 2,,,,never have owned a dell,,or HP for that matter,,,always built me own. And last but not least,,,if you were to build a Mac from the ground up,,,what would it cost you????? Just a basic mac,,lets say a 3 gig machine (quad core),,,4 gig of ram,,,1 tb hard drive,,and a 1 gig vid card. Pretty basisc. And when you be done building the simple mac,,,please post prices,,,,and if so,,,some benchmarks.

And what are the ratings based on? I'll give the Mac the nod when it comes to music recording, but that's probably only because the designers of Pro Tools engineer the software specifically for the Mac while the PC ports are a half-a$$ afterthought.

There are two aspects of the PC that come to mind that the Mac can't complete with:

Modular design: After I laid out the bucks for my very first PC back in 1994, I've never had to lay out that kind of money again since I can upgrade selected components when I need to (Newegg is a beautiful thing). What kind of component replacement/upgrade options are there for that all-in-one iMac?

Gaming: What games can you play on the Mac? Zork...Tetris?

With that said, now seems like a good time for this video:

I know this is an old thread, but APPLE does not have enough money to buy Sony. Just don't think of Sony Electronics, but think of Sony Music and Sony Pictures and their game shows. Apple has money, but NOT that kind of money
