Black Friday 2008 roundup: HD deals

Quote:

Let's face it -- it's easy to get overwhelmed when it comes to Black Friday. For starters, it's the day after Thanksgiving, a day in which you're likely already stressed out about what to cook, where to clean, who to invite and how to get off work early. The last thing you need is more stress when thinking about what HD gear you'll be adding to your collection a few days from now. Thus, we've scoured the intarwebz and scrubbed the deal sheets in order to present a slimmed down, easy-to-digest guide of where the best buys on high-def-related kit will be on November 28th. Hop on past the break to start making your list.

Before we get going with the deals, we'd like to point out that this list is by no means exhaustive nor complete. Some retailers wait till the last possible moment to reveal their deals, and leaks can happen each and everyday. To that end, we'd encourage you to keep a close eye on BlackFriday.info for up-to-the-minute changes and additions to Black Friday deals, and of course, you can survey our own coverage of the glorified shopping day right here. Have fun out there, and be sure to point out deals not mentioned in comments below.

The Wal-Mart sale starts at 5 am on Friday and I was intending to get there at 4:30, but now since I am seeing so much publicity for this $128 Mag BD player that I want two of, I think I am going to get there around 4 am.

Judging by the last 11/2/07 Pre-Black Friday sale for the HD-A2, I would say you want to get there by 3:00am and make sure you wait at the door, since many will likely be waiting earlier but in their cars to keep warm.

Edit:

You live in a warm climate so the cold weather will not be a factor. :D

Why not go tonite and buy it and then on friday morning bring it back for a price correction or hide it in another dept like the sewing/materials dept way up on a shelf?

Anyone else notice this Best Buy shuffle (why many hate BB):

Insignia 47-inch 1080p LCD HDTV plus Blu-ray Disc player - $1,299.97
Insignia 47-inch 1080p LCD HDTV - $999.99
Insignia Blu-ray Disc player - $249.99

So if you buy the Insignia BD player WITH the Insignia 47" 1080p LCD you pay $50.00 MORE than buying them separately.

I bet some people will think they got a bargain though. :lol:P

Actually, If you read the flyer it also includes TV and Video Setup by the Geek Squad, a $99 value.

Well, my Wal-Mart is a 24 hour Wal-Mart so I really don't mind waiting around inside the store. Should I really need to be there at 3am? I suppose it will depend if they have them out ahead of time or if they are bringing them out at 5am on an individual pallet.

Good Luck with your purchase and try to survive the onslaught of shoppers. :D

On that pre BF sale on 11/2/07 they were not supposed to have them available for sale until 8:00am I think but they had them out at 6:00am.

If you want 2 of them, I suggest you go there right after midnight and state that it IS the sale day technically and they should sell them to you NOW, since your store is open 24 hours/day. :D

Others may do the same thing and they will be gone. ;)

Exactly. You have to watch them little old ladies when they're trying to save a buck.

Good luck HDGoofnut! I will be there in spirit although I am setting my alarm clock for 3AM to get my hands on some BD movies per the Amazon Black Friday sale that starts online at 2AM PST (3AM MST for me)..

But then I am going right back to bed :)
