Default NetFlix Blu-Rays Are Coming Cracked!

I have had 5 Blu-Rays in the past month from NetFlix that have a crack in the same spot - the outer edge. I got another one day. I am heistating to report it as damaged because I have reported the others and I'm afraid they'll suspend my account.

Anyone else having this happen?

I have had 2 out of the roughly 10 rentals show up cracked. I always report it.

I think that "scratch resistant" coating is making them more brittle

I gotten a bunch of BDs from Netflix. The Departed had a little crack on the outside edge that was like 5mm long. The disc played normally however. All others that I have looked at were pristine other than some fingerprints. No disc has failed to play so far or had any easily noticeable damage that I remember.

I have received many blu-ray disc and never received a damage one. I have received 2 that would not play and they immediately shipped replacements upon my notifications.

I have received about 10 or so BDs from Netflix and haven't had a cracked one yet so maybe I am just lucky or I am the only one with a Blu-ray player in the area.

I would never worry about reporting something as damaged. Its if you report it missing and not having recieved it too many times that they might suspend your account.

I have rented around a hundred or so and only one has been damaged. It was broken in half. I use blockbuster's service though.

I enabled blu ray about a month ago. Out of perhaps 20 discs, 19 have been damaged.

They each came with a small crack in the same spot, outer corner of the disc.

Each time, I called to report the disc as damaged. And every time, whoever I was talking to told me little bits of info.

Apparently, this is a huge problem. One representative told me they've considered changing the packaging to protect the disc. They all have told me it's due to the postal sorting facilities. All of them claimed that since blu ray discs are less forgiving in terms of flexibility, when they go through sorting facilities they get cracked.

As far as doing anything about it...I don't know. I'm getting sick and tired of receiving these damaged blu rays. After buying a new tv and player, I just want to be able to actually enjoy HD.

So no, you're not the only one. This has been happening for awhile to MANY people. Time will tell what Netflix does about it, but as more people enable the format and experience this same problem, they'll have to do something about it.

Welcome to the forum!

I have only had ONE BD movie come with a crack at the outer edge out of well over 80+ discs (as a guess).

BTW, Where is the corner on a round disc?

Sorry just had to ask.

I have never had a cracked BD disc but i must be just lucky i guess! I thought the scratch resistant coating was supposed to help protect the disc. It sound's like it is doing more harm than good, i dont remember DVD's having these problem's?

So you have ordered 20 discs in a span of ~one month? Considering they only send 3 at a time, and it takes about 2 days for them to receive your discs back at the facility after watching, that seems like a relatively high amount of movies in just 1 months time.

Did the discs play? You never said they didn't work, just that they had a crack on the outer edge.

Thats a pretty MASSIVE assumption, because once BluRay players are mass market in price imagine how many disk will not be ruined by kids just being careless, millions.

I don't rent online, but all Netflix needs to do is modify those mail sorting machines so they don't bend the disk so much.
